Title: Motodynamics Tail Light issue
Post by: Kabulpostie on December 12, 2013, 05:02:26 PM
Hey There,
Just installed a motodynamics integrated tail light on my S2R1000and am having some issues.
The good:
Left and right signals work

The bad:
The brake light seems to be on all the time..it does not get brighter or do the flickering upon applying brake, either front or rear.

I have to leave the stock licence plate bulb attached or it shorts out the lights fuse (did this once already?

I checked all the connections and figure they must be good since all the lights actually turn on. just confused by the failure in the brake light.

edit: Tried switching wires around as suggested on MD website. No change in behavior. I do notice that if I rev the engine the brake light will flash a couple of time and then stay on
Any suggestions?

did you ever do a tail chop?

if so, check the wires, sounds like somethings snared and grounded. also, did you try reinstalling the orignal system?

No tail chop, though I did put the short tail from barracuda on..I'll double check everything tomorrow. Still can't figure how to get rid of the plate light..

It almost sounds like it's not getting the proper voltage? Did you use the resisters with it?

I did use the resistors. I got a response from MotoD and they say it sounds like a short or that my brake switch is sticking..I doubt it, but I' ll hook up the old stuff after work and test it. No answer on how to get rid of the Plate Light Though:(

LOL, I wish it was that easy. I want to use the light that is integrated with the MOTOD but I'm not  sure what to due with the stock one. If I remove the bulb it shorts out the fuse. Nothing in the instructions indicates what to do with it [bang]

Removing the bulb should not bow a fuse.  Shorts and excessive amperage draw blows fuses.  Disconnect the brake lights one at a time to eliminate the possibility of a switch problem.  Where did you put the resistors?  What value?

Check to make sure the rear brake is making a connection when you let off the pedal.  Not sure what its called, but look at your rear brake and you will see a screw head that closes the circuit when there is no pressure on the pedal.

It might have been that way before your taillight swap and you are just noticing it.  Happened to me.

All right, issue has been solved. Turns out the switch attached to the brake lever mount was a little loose. I pushed it back in and now it works great. As a side note it seems like at 17,000 mile everything on this bike is starting to get loose. Might have to spend an hour or two going through with some mild loc-tight and getting things secure!
