Title: Which wax for new gen plastics?
Post by: cyberswine on January 07, 2014, 04:10:20 PM
Not sure where to post this, but anyways...  Which wax or finish do you guys use for the plastics on your new gens?  I've been trying to build a base using Meguiars paste wax but the finish never looks like some of the pics and videos I see with a real deep shine.  Share your secrets!

If price proves quality, wow!  $37.00 for 12 ounces is steep. I might try it though as the plastics on the Evo are poorly painted.

eh? if you mean the bare abs plastic, you don't wax them, you use a plastic specific product to protect it and make it look great....

i use mother's naturally black..

other good ones are 303 aerospace protectant or similar.

if that's the case you will have more success with re-finishing, like using SEM plastic specific black etc, or bodging it a lil' with something like forever black.

a wax or any dressing can't magically make the base material look perfect, you need to start with a good surface finish and then dress. that goes for nekkid plastic or 2k paint (altho you can cheat a lil' with paint using products with micro fillers etc)

That might be the case with your bike but it is not a true statement for all EVOs. I have seen several that rival the best paint on just about any bike or car.

I harvest my own ear wax, and use that. It's both environmentally responsible and I think it does a better job than the petrochemical derived products that are on the market. As a bonus, I get that extra little bit of saisfaction knowing that a tiny piece of me is covering my bike.

Did you see mythbusters where they made a candle out of ear wax?
Grant vomited when they lit it.

I like ProtectAll spray on product.  Been using it for years on a few different motorcycles.  It has carnauba wax and it seems to do a nice job of cleaning and protecting the paint.

I just use the Meguiar's car cleaning products I use on my cars to detail it.  Paint is paint and these work just as well on the motorcycle as they do on the cars.
