Specially if he's wearing gear and the douche is not.

Personally...I would have hugged him and reassured him that everything was going to be ok....

then secretly follow him home. then when he's sleeping, shove one of his participation trophies up his ass, fart on his head, then kill his parents.

Think that's bad?  When I was a kid I got pissed at my mom and spent the better part of six months moving things she put down.  Not very far, sometimes a few inches, other times a few feet.  She never caught me a single time......

We had an attorney years ago that worked in my court that was really bad about his stuff. His desk drawer was classic obsessive/compulsive. If you looked those words up in a dictionary there would be a picture of him, his desk and the cork bulletin board above the desk. Things measured out and taped down with Scotch tape, all #2 pencils sharpened exactly the same and all the same length, everything madly arranged on the bulletin board, etc.

Of course acting that way is only asking for trouble. EVERYONE messed with his stuff ALL THE TIME! [laugh] Just a little here, a little there... nothing major. Just bump his perfect universe a bit out of kilter. We'll all burn in hell for it but even the judge liked doing it. And of course we never let on that we did anything.

Funny, all I was thinking was how nice the exhaust note on his bike was for a non-Ducati, and it was a Ducati.

A lot of people were commenting on how fighting with a helmet is awesome.

Its not. if you grab the chin or the back of the helmet, they can pretty much control you. Its also not easy to fight iwth all that gear on, but doable. But you better know what your doing cause youll be slow as hell.

Well, first off, allowing them to get close enough to grab your helmet without striking them is proof you don't know what you're doing.

That said, if you needed to take one to give one the helmet should pretty much ensure it's not to the face or doesn't matter, which is a huge potential advantage.

Not to mention if you were close enough for him to grab you SHOULD be close enough to deliver one HELL of the head butt.

I think the advantages of the helmet would far outweigh the disadvantages to most people.

First off, opening a comment on a friendly motorcycle forum with an unprovoked insult is tacky as hell. That said, I've always found that the people who are "expert fighters" in the internetz are usually anything but.

Back on topic, the little doughboy with Napoleon complex has probably had his ass whooped 70 times since that vid was shot, with a mouth like that. I'm not an expert fighter but I've been in a few street fights growing up poor as hell in a $hit neighborhood, lost my share of em', and my humble opinion is in line with He Man with one caveat: I'd take the helmet and the gear over an inexperienced dude throwing haymakers any day. Against someone that really knows how to grapple that helmet would be a huge disadvantage. Again, in my humble opinion.

The helmet makes a great weapon with a hand wrapped around the chinbar. Of course that's not an option for people that don't understand the Hurt Report. Zinnnngggg!

Can't believe I didn't think of that.

Used my helmet once when I was jumped by a gang in Venice beach.  They surrounded me and told me to give them my helmet, I did.  Nearly killed the turd I hit first, broke the guys face I hit second and then I got a beating of a lifetime.  There were six of them and they managed to break nearly every rib in my body in less than 30 seconds before the cops showed up.  

Worst of all?  Some prick still managed to steal my Randy Mamola replica Arai while I was down.   :'(

As a general, all 'round pussy who is likely to lose any fight I get into, I vote for having the helmet on. If I am to take an ass whippin' I'd like to avoid a concussion too.

I think you're reading something wrong, I wasn't insulting He-Man.

I was responding to his "better know what you're doing" and the theoretical tactics of fighting with a helmet on. I.E. the "you" he was talking about in post. If "you" are gonna fight with gear on... then "you better know".

My response was to that scenario, i.e. if you (someone, anyone) let him get close enough to grab your helmet without striking him, then you (someone, anyone) don't know what you are doing.

The "you" wasn't "He Man" in that conversation.

So chill.


Boxing, wrestling, Judo, or Shotokan?

I've been training, competing, and teaching since I was 13 (now in my 40s), won more than I lost, but been humbled too, and realize there are very very few supermen, and most people can be beaten if you keep your head about you, ESPECIALLY on the street.

For the record as I explained above I wasn't attacking you.

Very cool. I'd be super proud of that and have a bunch of cool memorabilia like trophies, newspaper clippings, photos with a personal inspiration like Gracie or Jeff Monson, framed certificates and such. Would you mind sharing? I'm being sincere, it's a subject that interests me.

You'll excuse me if I wonder about your sincerity, but so that I'm transparent I'll play along.

Our vanity shelf (in my basement office where it belongs). I say "our" because my wife has been training and competing for about a decade and a half as well. I actually have a framed newspaper clipping of her from the Shotokan Nationals in SD some years back, we were in the airport at the gate waiting for a plane back to Philly when I noticed her face on the front page of the local paper's sport section that someone was reading across the row from us. He laughed when I pointed her out and handed us the paper as a souvenir.

The top of that shelf was also for books I've written (repair manuals, nothing fancy, though it does include Chilton's Motorcycle Handbook), though I've long stopped putting new titles on it.

Ohhh, I forgot to mention that in the late 80's/early 90's I was cross-training in American Kempo. I was assisting with instruction at a nearby Kempo school when Master Ed Parker came to visit for a week. I got to spend a week with him, and was invited as his guest at a couple of seminars. He gave me a signed portrait of himself as a thanks. I keep it here in my office too. He was a great presence and had a nice way of putting people at ease. He also had a number of quips he used when teaching like "he who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position" that always kept us chuckling.  :D  He told more than few Bruce Lee stories over dinners.

So nothing particularly notable, but most of my life the Martial Arts have been a great motivator for me, and generally sure beats boring workouts in the gym. There's something about trying to keep someone from taking your head off that keeps you focused more on that than on how frickin' beat you are.  ;) and certainly I enjoy it WAY more than a run (which I begrudgingly do to cross-train).

I don't have anything from my boxing or wrestling, that was mostly back in college (back at Lehigh). There were some photos of some of my fights, but I think they all wound up in the fraternity photo albums. I would like to get my hands on some, it would be funny seeing myself again with all that hair.  [laugh]

If you've never taken a martial arts class, but have some interest, I would recommend checking one out. It's not a bad way to spend a few hours a week.

Ok, so I just read through the entire 36 page thread that this is linked to: THERE IS NO PAYOFF, NO MONEY SHOT AT THE END!!!! It seems the dude on the Duc initiated charges against the driver but to this point there is either no resolution or if there is it hasn't been posted.

During the thread someone "outed" the suspect from facebook and linkedin pages but the Duc rider doesn't feel it is the same guy.

So save yourself the time (unless you just enjoy reading peoples jacked up opinions), watch the video and just wonder how it is all turning out. The dude on the bike seems to have gone silent.

He actually posted up a video of a few minutes BEFORE he came into contact with the guy, if that video is unaltered I sure cannot tell that he did anything out of the ordinary to justify the douchebags response. I am not saying he did nothing, just that if he did do something it isn't apparent.

Back on topic......

I have a similar story where I was riding at midnight on the FDR in manhattan, empty 3 tight lanes and there was one mini van i could see on the whole road. Its a 45mph (and rightfully so) and since its open im doing about 65. Im on the left most lane, a mini van is on the right most lane and i pass him while i was in the middle lane on a gentle right hander and slow down as i approach this hill thats blind. I have a fear that theres a wall of traffic over the hill and im going to tee into someone, so i always slow down.

The guy comes DRILLING into the corner and tries to run me off the road. His rear rear right bumper was probably about 2-3 feet away from my front wheel and im just like WHOA!!! guy slows down and i go around on the driver side and the guy starts cussing at me in russian with a furious looking face. i had no idea what i did and he tried to bump me again and i just gunned it and left.

There was also that time i thought a guy was trying to pull a gun on me (thats buried somewhere on this forum).

These people who start shit, you dont know if they are nuts, or if they are trying to act big or if they are having a murderous day and looking to start shit. First thing you should ALWAYS think before getting into a scruffle is, how far is this guy going to go to kill me? (hint, you dont know).

The rider did the right thing. He stood his ground to assess the situation, the guy came up and acted big and gave a sissy shove. With gear on, no one will punch you in the face, if hte rider tried to punch back he would of delt with a 400lb bike dragging him down and another 200lb fella kick him in the nuts. good on the rider in my opinion.

I'm taken too, she's a physician, but hey, if a better offer comes along...:D
