Title: who here wanted cheap bar end mirrors which fit on stock handlebars?
Post by: roy-nexus-6 on July 09, 2008, 04:23:47 AM
I remember getting a note from someone on the other board re Oberon Bar End Mirrors. Like me, they had stock handlebars, so couldn't mount the mirrors.

Well, I've found an alternative set of mirrors that cost $45, & they fit perfectly: you just remove the bar end, and these mirrors are just bolted into place.

Anyway, I don't think it was Spider - he helped me out with sourcing a tail light lens. Just can't remember who it was.

It wasn't me that you spoke to, but i require some mirrors, and your tip might just fit the bill.
I've an old 95 model with small ID handlebars, what have you found?

Cheers
Richie

Hi Ritchie,

I'll try to get home early tomorrow afternoon so I can take some pics... keep an eye on this thread.  [thumbsup]

Ok, here's a photo.

I wasn't sure how riding with bar end mirrors would be, so I wasn't keen to spend $160 to find out. But I have to tell you, visibility is about 100% better. The Mickey's only ever showed me my arm.

The stock S4 handlebars are threaded - an (approx 8mm dia.) bolt holds the bar ends in place. Well, these mirrors have an 8mm bolt which attaches to a collet which springs 'open' inside wider bars to hold the mirrors in place.... so I just removed the collet, and replaced the bar ends with the mirrors. The supplied bolts were about 1cm too long - so I bought replacement bolts for $1.15.

You'll notice I also wired the mirrors in place: it's not needed to hold them there - I'm just paranoid.

Yep, I had them as well.

They are a "good" copy of the CRG's. They are really good for the price!

Here is the full thread in Accessories and Mods: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=3777.30
You can see my write up there on page three.

Purchased from http://stores.ebay.com/Moto-Delux on ebay. I purchased the $45 mirrors; they also have a slightly different version for $35 (not quite as nice IMO). If you want the mirrors shipped to you direct from the US, it will cost an additional $31 - they are shipped express: mine took only 4 days to arrive. Alternatively, if you have friends in the US, you can halve the cost of postage by having them send it to you.

Cheers.  [beer]
