Title: bummed Post by: bdfinally on March 08, 2014, 08:55:26 AM Replaced a burned out ignition switch connector & rectifier back in November. The battery I had at the time would not take a charge on my Battery Tender, so bought a new one for this riding season. Got a couple of nice days to ride to work a few weeks ago and everything worked fine. Last weekend tried to start it and battery didn't have enough juice to start it and just wound down, so charged it last night , got a solid green light on the tender, slipped it in and hit the button and get nothing but a constant clicking. Instrument panel lights and headlight come on. Solenoid gone now? Bike is '00 M750 w/39K.
As always, thanks in advance. Title: Re: bummed Post by: ducpainter on March 08, 2014, 09:08:55 AM If you have a voltmeter, I'd use susyj's post to check all your connections via the voltage drop method.

If the plates are exposed add enough water to cover the plates. Then go to voltage drop.
Title: Re: bummed Post by: bdfinally on March 09, 2014, 07:43:58 AM charged it up to 12.65 V and took it to advance for a check. Their check says it failed, had not enough cranking amps. Guy asked me if it had "frozen" when he looked at the cells. Is that really an issue? The bike sits outside and it's been a uber cold winter in stretches but most of that time it was covered and the battery was out of it. Anyway bought a new battery it's on the charger and I'll do the suggested test when it's up to stuff and report back. Thanks for the suggestions, DP & Howie
Title: Re: bummed Post by: Howie on March 09, 2014, 07:54:19 AM A weak or dead battery will freeze. The acid sort of works like antifreeze As specific gravity drops freezing point raises. Did this happen to you? Dunno.
Title: Re: bummed Post by: bdfinally on March 09, 2014, 08:22:42 AM I think the battery is just a symptom. It's only been in use since January, probably stayed in the bike 10-14 days and only 3 or 4 without use. When I replaced the rectifier/regulator I didn't have a chance to replace female connector that has some corrosion. Possible problem there in the charging system?
