Title: I might be coming back to the flock! Post by: StephenC on March 08, 2014, 03:56:34 PM A few years ago I sold my 1100S. I did it for the practical reason of needing to transport a small child, but regretted it. Eventually I persuaded my wife to let me have a bike and the car, so bought a Triumph Street Triple; but never fell for it like the Monster. I've been keeping an eye on the classifieds and have found a low km 1100S that is close enough for me to go and see. So who knows, but I may re-enter the Monster club! Any advice on things to watch for on used bikes? Nothing much went wrong on my old one, but I only had it a year or so.
Title: Re: I might be coming back to the flock! Post by: GK on March 09, 2014, 01:44:28 PM I guess the stuff that anyone would recommend: service records, obvious leaks of any kind, pad wear, chain and sprocket condition, operation of clutch and brake, colour of their fluid, overall condition of the bike etc.
If it's got low km's you should be right, providing all servicing was done right. As for the things particular to that model, I have no experience of that; though others here will no doubt. All the best with it. [thumbsup] GK Title: Re: I might be coming back to the flock! Post by: rendang on March 10, 2014, 07:14:51 AM Welcome back ! I strayed from the fold once, after three Ducati's I bought a Rickman Honda, meh, just didn't do it for me and couldn't wait to get another L-twin. Enjoy the new bike. Post by: StephenC on March 11, 2014, 12:31:28 AM And here I was thinking it was a fence, held together with dirt and grease!
It's looking hopeful. A few issues have arisen but seller is being very helpful so inspection due on Saturday. Anybody want to bury a Street Triple? Title: Re: I might be coming back to the flock! Not advertised yet as I would hate to get a sale on the STR and not buy the Monster and then have to drive the CAR. If all goes well I pick up the Monster this weekend and will prep the Triumph for sale early next week. I will post details (if it is allowed on the forum) then. I'll check. Title: Re: I might be coming back to the flock! Post by: StephenC on March 17, 2014, 08:41:42 PM Good point - but not until I have made her mine and taken a semi-decent shot of her. I guess a placeholder will have to do for now!

Title: Re: I might be coming back to the flock! Post by: StephenC on March 17, 2014, 09:16:29 PM One or two! By my reckoning:
Custom paint job Carbon fibre rear hugger Carbon fibre tank centre pieces - I'm not 100% sure about these but will see how they grow on me Carbon fibre exhaust shield Carbon fibre sprocket cover - I don't like this and will replace with the Rizoma one Ducati Performance clutch pressure plate and springs DP carbon fibre clutch cover - definitely coming off DP tail tidy Rizoma bars and risers Rizoma bar-ends and mirrors Rizoma rearsets - I'll probably switch back to the silver foot pegs though New rear spring Termognoni slip-ons - I need to find a set of baffles for these Rizoma levers - I think I will eventually get a pair of ASV shorties, as I got used to them on my Street Triple I think that's it - for now! Post by: StephenC on March 20, 2014, 02:18:52 AM Someone get me a shovel. I'd blame 'autocorrect' but more likely it was my brain or fingers malfunctioning. Certainly the latter are the cause of the Monster being in bits across the garage floor, while I wait for someone to rescue the indicators from my own wiring disaster! Why is it that Italian bikes you have to connect the red wire to the black and the black to the red? It defies logic. Actually, it is probably for the best as if it had worked I would have done all four with my dodgy soldering and had four non functioning indicators! |
