Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: firefish on March 20, 2014, 06:39:06 AM Yes, TKC80. Wouldn't have worked without studs, not every day at least :)

Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: Skybarney on March 20, 2014, 07:11:59 AM Nice,
Good on you for grabbing your nuts and going for a ride. [thumbsup] I used to ride in the snow, quite a bit actually as I lived at 5,200ft and did not own a car for three years. Surprisingly I never crashed in the snow. Just in the red gravel left over from it in the spring. [bang] I will never forget my first snow ride. In a blizzard crossing over Loveland Pass in Colorado on a 92 cbr600. Would have never tried it except that I was wearing an Aerostich with heated gear under when a 70 year old man on an old BMW saw me sitting it out at the gas station and offered to lead me over the pass. I only tried as his worn out and unheated leathers shamed me into the effort. It went well and I have since learned to not fear the snow. Makes a bloddy mess of the bike though. Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: SpikeC on March 20, 2014, 05:45:57 PM When I would commute in the snow I would lower the tire pressure to around 20 pounds or so, and that would provide a bunch more traction. Riding against the side of the curb would help a lot in black ice situations as well.

How many days/year do you do this? Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: NAKID on March 20, 2014, 08:26:30 PM Brave Brave man....
Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: DucRS on March 21, 2014, 01:29:18 AM Wow :o
And I hate it when it's under 50 degrees. Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: firefish on March 21, 2014, 04:47:34 AM :o [thumbsup] How many days/year do you do this? Every day, all year. Unless the missus wants me to pick something heavy up, then I take my truck but it hasn't got winter tires so I try to avoid her needs. But we have summer too - slightly warmer and very much nicer – so it's not as bad as it looks. Not every day at least :) Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: yamifixer on March 21, 2014, 07:54:30 AM YOU WIN. I am a wimp. I don't ride if it MIGHT rain.

I'm impressed OP [thumbsup] Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: jsanford on March 22, 2014, 07:32:01 AM Awesome. Other riders shake their head at me as I commute year-round in our plentiful rain and down to 35 degrees. Now it seems I'm just another soft, doughy spoiled American. [shot]
So! What are the mods to your gear and the bike that make this work? Do you use different oil on the chain? Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: 1.21GW on March 22, 2014, 07:44:40 AM That convinced me that Rizoma needs to make a holder for ice scrapers/brushes. ;D
I laughed throughout that whole video. Awesome, man! [thumbsup] Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: GK on March 22, 2014, 01:55:25 PM Mate, that is awesome! [clap]
I'm such a softy. Being from Melbourne, it was hard enough for me to grasp the amount of snow you had to clean of the bike, let alone ride it in such conditions. Btw, would you get a ticket from your friendly local law enforcement officer for the speedo not working? LOL! I doubt they'd actually want to get out of their warm car in such conditions. That's my rpm/gear table, i.e. speedo [thumbsup]

I've ridden when it was -6 Celsius before, but never in the snow, and not with my Monster. I'm fairly certain I would never ride in those conditions, but I do miss having a bike that I didn't worry about getting wet or dirty. I used to feel somewhat elated and amused when riding in the rain, but with the Monster I start to worry if a single drop hits my visor. :( I need another bike! Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: DexterMorgan on March 23, 2014, 06:16:17 AM Very cool!
Your bike's favorite part of the ride was when you pulled in a covered garage!! I rode my DR350 in Flagstaff and Michigan for 3 winters during college. A lot of snow but it had knobby tires and the ride was only a 5 min ride each way. It was terrifying.
Stunning to me that anybody would choose to ride a Monster in the snow, through traffic, at those speeds. High marks for balls though. [clap] Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: Monsterlover on March 29, 2014, 03:34:44 PM Keep in mind he has the right tires that are studded.
Traction makes all the difference ;) Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: Ill_Monstruo on March 29, 2014, 05:02:27 PM [bow_down] Balls of steel lol
Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: BoDiddley on April 19, 2014, 12:39:16 AM I am on the road as soon as the snow is off, (you have bigger cojones than I), and I have to rinse off the bike to remove the salt even after a slightly wet ride. Last winter I threw the bike in the truck for Arkansas to visit my uncle and look for twistys. On the way back we ran into snow all through IL and spent that night in Chicago. Just one night and I can still find a few pits on the forks and other alumi parts. I can't imagine you give it a rinse at the end of every work day. How do you deal with the salt or are your roads salt free?
Title: Re: Video of me riding the Monster to work in the snow - nice Post by: lpgoldtop on May 01, 2014, 02:00:29 AM No fair! My monster won't even start if it's below 40°.

I live in Wisconsin so I'm well aware of what winter driving is all about. Plus my Monster refuses to start if it is 45 or below. She's a finicky pregnant dog!
