Title: 1100S Pipes on an 1100 EVO
Post by: Estoma on April 02, 2014, 08:13:00 AM
So I recently (late last year) got me a new 1100 EVO, and I love it ;D.  And I would not swap it for a 1200S unless maybe, you added a Maserati Quattroporte to your side of the deal ;D ;D.  But I would probably have loved it ever so slightly more, had it been a 1100S [thumbsup].

So who has fitted an 1100S High-mount Exhaust on an 1100 EVO?  Can it be done?  I cannot see why not.  The only (surmountable) niggle seems to be a Brake Tube north of the Swingarm, where the Vertical Cylinder's Exhaust Header (and heat from it) will take up most of the Real Estate.  What about Exhaust Heat under the Seating Area?  There is a lot more Pipe occupying space directly under the Seat on the 1100S than on the EVO.

Any pointers would be most appreciated as I might just be able to get hold of a set of 1100S Headers in good nick.

I dont actually know for sure.

But... I see no reason why 09 1100 Monster headers wouldnt fit your EVO.  You talking stock headers?  Coz thing is you'd also need the midpipe... and its ugly/useless flapper gate.... or some alternative to that such as a 696 midpipe.  Spark cans for M1100 come with their very own nice midpipe.  Pretty confident Termi and SC-Project full systems would both fit your EVO too with only some minor ingenuity re the high can mounts (does EVO have the threaded holes in the underside of the subframe?).

In silly hot weather I do notice some underseat heat which no doubt would be lesser with the stock EVO's lower routing.

This would be relatively easy to mount with only minor fabrication but depends if you want a dual can or single!

Arrow make a nice full system as well which deletes the flapper unit.

This is kind of funny, as when the Evo came out some guys wanted to switch there 1100s to the new pipes! Now someone wants to go the other way! If I still had my 09 i would be happy to trade!

It shouldn't be hard at all.  If you are concerned about heat then just wrap the exhaust at that point.  I have a stock 2010 Monster 1100 exhaust headers sitting in my garage with bungs and o2 sensors if you want to give it a try.  There are no mufflers on them.  I prefer to clean up the engine bay area so there are numerous options if you just want the high rise in the rear.  There is no problem clearing the rearsets as well since I have EVO rearsets and rear brake reservoir mounts the same.  You should probably put foil tape or heat shield on your fuel pump as it runs right by it on the 1100 and not the EVO.  THere are numerous for sale with the proper shielding for about 18-20 USD, but not sure if the EVO fuel pump is the same mount.

I would retro fit a multi/hyper setup so that you get headers around/under the engine instead of over top and you still get the high rise exhaust in the rear under the seat.  This method lends itself more to only single outlet and is a bit more narrow header than the 45mm ID.  I wouldn't be too concerned with the smaller header since deletion of the exhaust valve will open up the flow and not restrict performance.

This project has been on the backburner while work (the earning-a-living type) got in the way. Zard also makes a full Pipe; 2-1-2 (45mm, 60mm, 50mm), like Termi's.  The Headers look a lot like the Stock M1100/S ones though.  The SC-Projects version is 2-1-1.  Quad-D (Europe) does (did) 2-2 separates, a pipe per cylinder.  Arrow's Headers look similar to Zard's, or maybe Zard's look like Arrow's.  The Arrow Cans are pretty ordinary, too ordinary.

I finally bought the Spark high-mount Slip-ons, mainly to keep the EVO Headers and to avoid introducing too much under-seat heat, since I already experience that with the 1190 (KaTooM).  The Spark Cans tuck in nice and neat with the backend.  Only; the Collector (Mid-pipe) is a bit long.  Might be good for mid-range grunt though.  They are still in the post as we talk.
