Title: harley davidson oil filter on the monster 800
Post by: leungevity on April 21, 2014, 01:37:46 PM
I know it's been posted that you can use this filter (63810-80a) to substitute for the Fram PH6019, but has anyone actually done it?

I was in a pinch, meaning i went to some Walmarts to get a Fram, but nobody seems to carry them anymore.  Passing by the harley dealership, i popped in and picked up the black filter for $7 which is cheaper than the Fram.

Is the quality any different? is this something that i'll regret doing later on?

My guess is it's probably all the same, but just wanted to see if anybody had any experience with this filter.

Thanks

Hopefully there is a quality difference.  Stay away from Fram.  http://www.leroybeal.net/motorcycles/silverwing/articles/oil-filters/Motorcycle%2520oil%2520filters%2520exposed.pdf (http://www.leroybeal.net/motorcycles/silverwing/articles/oil-filters/Motorcycle%2520oil%2520filters%2520exposed.pdf)  No opinion on the Harley filter since I have no opinion, but why not take the safe route and get a K&N, Hi Flo or OEM from one of our sponsors?

well i guess it's good that i couldn't find the Fram. I'll look into a filter from a sponsor.  thanks

Still curious if anybody has used the HD one though.

I know of people who have used the K&N version for HDs. It's chrome. [puke]
There was a thread on filter comparison and fitment you could search. Ducatiz did it and his signature has a link to it.
We should support our sponsors as much as possible. I suggest the K&N because it has a nut on it that makes torqueing it on and getting it off easier.
