Title: Is anyone here in Italy, or know a broker/middle man in Italy?
Post by: Rudemouthsky on April 25, 2014, 06:43:31 AM
So after repeated failed attempts to get a response from S&P Italy regarding purchasing their billet suspension hoop, I got a little tricky and found one on their eBay Italy page. Put in an offer, despite the fact that the auction did not list the USA as a shipping destination. I did however add my requirement in the notes with my offer.

I realize it's their prerogative where they're willing to ship, but I'm getting no response from them after 2 days. eBay won't accept a payment without an Italian shipping address. So I'm wondering if there's a go between/broker I can have the hoop shipped to, who will in turn ship the part to me. Willing to pay for this service.

Yes I realize this is quite a lot to go through, but I'm pretty obsessive once I have my mind set on having something. Missed the boat on Motowheels' clearance of these, and I want one...baaad.

You might try calling motowheels for help. They might be able to have it shipped to them or have another idea.

I asked Matt already and I got the impression he wanted nothing to do with it. Pro Italia as well. It's a bit irritating considering the cash I spend. Meh

Ask to talk to Martin. I have found Matt to be less then helpful as well. Maybe you can cancel the ebay auction (since they wont let you complete it) and Martin can just order you one that you buy from him.

I am wary of the Italian postal service.  I guess it could have happened anywhere along the line between there and here but my triple clamp somehow mysteriously disappeared and I ended up with an opened and empty package.  The pouch looked like it was slit with a knife but in any case it was not insured and international mail has its own set of headaches.  Better to go through a US based company (and let them take the risk lol) IMHO.

The Italian postal service to say politely is atrociously bad, in england we are basically informed to never ship to italy as it likely will get lost never delivered and its near impossible to insure a package there as the chance of it getting "lost" is so high. Out of the ten or so packages I've shipped to Italy i think only one arrived in a timely fashion and at least four never arrived with their intended recipients.

Come on, it ain't that bad  [roll]
In my 1st half of my life, I ordered a lot of stuff from abroad (mostly US), and I never had a package lost.
Not sure if it got worse now.
For sure, I will never do a "shipping favor" again.
I did it once for a friend of mine (the other way around, USA -> Italy), and it was a nightmare.
He wanted the package fast, so I went to UPS and their quote was more than the package value.
So, after having gone to UPS, and realized the friend of mine likely would have not wanted to pay that price, I had to drive back home.
Called him the day after, and he settled for a longer time shipment, but cheaper.
Was almost upset about it, like I was trying to jack up shipping prices.
Then he did not realized he had to pay customs, and that clearing customs would have added even more time to the delivery.
A mess. Never again.

Yep. When I lived in Florence, I had Oreos and Slim Jims shipped to me. All that showed up was an empty box two months later.

Darn Italians ate my Slim Jims  :'(

Hrrm. You guys have me quite a bit wary now...

I wasn't looking for a favor though...I'm willing to compensate someone.

Seems like there should be a brokerage who actually does this type of thing...

seems like I should know, since I import the products I sell for a living...I just wouldn't know where to begin looking for one in Italy.

What is this part exactly? The rear suspension shock mount/hoop thing?

I've never looked at one super close, but it they are simple enough (no crazy broached shapes, etc.)
I could turn a few out when I get a gap in projects

I make billet CNC stuff all day
(I actually shoehorned a 4-axis CNC macining center into what used to be my dining room)

It's an option for you anyway.   [thumbsup]

Thanks guys, I finally heard back from S&P, days later he was basically like; "what are ya fretting about, I accepted your offer didn't I?" lol Italians...

I had bought a few shirts from a DMC Roma club member ( found him on the SoCalDMC forum/site... pretty much defunct now) a while ago.... Since the ducati community is quite supportive, maybe you can reach out to a club in italy for assistance..

"Paulo" (I think they're all named Paulo?!) From S&P Sez he's going to get me a shipping quote tomorrow.

I just gotta decide between silver or black. 😏I'm diggin how this is going to be a rare piece now.
