The micro switch for my front brake is starting to stick “on†quite frequently. I used to be able to tap on it and that would free it up for a while. Pretty soon it started sticking worse so I shot some WD-40 in between the lever and switch and that seemed to work. Now, it is pretty much stuck on all the time. You can still here a “click†when squeezing the lever, but the taillight stays illuminated. I was pricing some online and they aren't exactly cheap.
Any ideas to keep limping this one along? Maybe just removing and a good cleaning? Any good sources for a replacement switch?
Any help is appreciated!
It happened to me once, a combination of Electric Contact Cleaner and WD-40 did the magic; then when it happened again, same ECC and a product, really, which I don't remeber the name but smelled like orange solved the issue, that master is running now on a Z750 from 1981 or something and it has not bothered the user . . .
But remember, I live where temps and humidity are very high . . .
You can remove the switch and clean the exterior.
There is a *small* plastic pin ~5mm diameter x 5mm long that is pushed by the lever which actuates the switch.
Clean that and the
bore it resides in.
Clean and grease the lever pivot and pin.
The pin and the screws and nuts for the switch are tiny, work in a clean area so you've got a chance of finding them if dropped.
Not sure exactly which switch version your 620 has, but most are a generic microswitch.
A good old-school electronics shop should be able to hook you up.
Sometimes loosening the screws and adjusting the switch position will do it.
But the whole assembly faces forward and gets filled with road grime.
Excellent info. Thanks guys! [thumbsup]
+1 on speedog's suggestion. Work on a clear bench and large sheet of white paper. I have dropped the nut off the tiny screw, lost forever... ;D
Sure nuff...good cleaning is all it needed. Sure wish I would have done that a long time ago [roll]
