How do you do it? I can't seem to be able to separate the two from each other. Everything is unscrewed, the clutch hub is off and it's not on the bike.
I rented a gear puller earlier and ended up breaking or cracking everything I tried to use to hold the center screw in the center. I'm guessing the little nubs that mesh with the primary gear from the clutch basket may have mushroomed out, but I'm hesitant to drill or file anything just yet.
I considered a crowbar with a breaker bar attached and jumping on it, but I'd rather not break the damn thing in half.
Any suggestions?
Which model of engine did the basket come off of?
2002 620.
AFAIK those are riveted together.
i was going to say, the rivets might give it away.
So drill em out and replace with another basket? I assume they aren't necessary then...
I'm assuming your basket is damaged?
Any basket you get will very likely come with a gear attached....
I thought primary and secondary gears were supposed to be kept as a pair for gear meshing? I've never replaced a clutch before so I'm a little new to this. I think I'm mainly confused by the aftermarket clutch baskets/kits for wet clutch bikes that I've seen.
It's from my 620 engine which is currently in pieces. I was wanting to have all pieces separate as spares for my 800 as the plates and all are still in good condition. I have read that keeping gears paired up was recommended, otherwise whining could occur, and I'm guessing whatever basket is in the 800 is likely in good condition.
Maybe I'll just leave it alone.
What specifically are you trying to accomplish?
If your 800 motor has the standard wet clutch, you can swap plates between it and your 620 motor.
Just wanted spares of whatever consumables I can reuse, so I'll keep the plates and get rid of everything else.
