Title: Length of stock grips vs Rizoma grips
Post by: 696DCRider on May 20, 2014, 10:23:06 AM
Does anyone know how the length of these grips compare?  I don't know if I still have my stock grips or not, but I installed Rizoma grips a long time ago and I have an annoying gap between the bar end and the end of the Rizoma grips that was not present with the stock setup.  I'm wondering if this is due to the Rizoma grips being shorter.

Edit: forgot to mention this is for a 696.  Also, here are the specific grips I have:

Yes, they are shorter than stock (~5mm IIRC)

Live with it/chop the bars/move all controls out (moving out requires drilling new holes)

Thanks, that's what I figured.

Yeah, those seems like the only options.  I have them installed on some Suburban Machinery Bars. I seem to be having a clearance issue with the clutch side anyway, so I need to do some adjusting.  I wonder if moving the controls out or chopping off the ends would make more sense.  I guess the downside to chopping off the ends is if I ever decided to switch to another pair of grips and they were longer, I would have to adjust for that.

Funny you say that. On my S2R800 I went from stock to Rizoma's. Rizoma's where shorter so I cut the bars. Later I decided to switch to G2 Throttle Tube (same size as stock) and progrips. Now that my bars were shorter I had to move the controls in.   :D

Nice.  [laugh] So maybe I should just learn from your mistakes :)  The hole for my throttle side is off anyway, so it would probably be easier to just redo the holes and move everything over.

I've actually thought of building rubber spacers to fill the gap
