Title: M800 clutch
Post by: MonsterHPD on May 28, 2014, 03:25:27 PM
Hi, all.
While touring the M800 back from a track day yesterday, I noticed the engine started to rev up quicker than the actual accelleration could confirm (unfortunately ....), so the obvious conclusion is a worn clutch.

Having not opened up to have a look yet, and since I've never done anything to a Duc wet clutch (well, so far ...), is this normally a case of new plates, or are these clutches also subject to the check-plate-pack-thickness-and-compensate procedure?

How many miles on said M800?

And were they easy highway miles or streetracing?

The bike has 25000 km, or about 15000 miles. Most riding has been on 2-lane roads at sedate-to brisk, but not street racing speeds. The last qouple of years she's seen a few track days, but in total that would be 2 days at the most.
I was actually a bit surprised hen the clutch startes slipping, but I have no experience of these clutches, so maybe this would be about what you'd expect?

From what I saw happen with mine, if it squalls a little bit during engagement (while it is slipping) the steels are cooked and the fibers are probably bad too. I had to replace mine and change my shifting style.

My first two S2R800 clutches lasted 25' each.

I noticed slipping at max torque - around 6' - 7' revs at full open throttle.

Springs were replaced, but that doesn't have to be done if tey are within spec.

Thanks, this is exactly what happens. Might just as well order a new clutch plate kit, then.
