Title: Collection Agency Recommendatios
Post by: jorgemiranda on July 10, 2008, 11:43:19 AM
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a good collection agency they could recommend? We often takes checks from costumers and some come as NSF, so we would need a nationwide agency that could do that for us?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I didn't think anyone took checks any more unless you had one of those scanners that check the bank acct right away.

Yea, those scanners send the Checks directly to the bank and some check that the accounts are open and exists, but they don't check if the accounts have sufficient funds.

My wife takes checks, but most of the NSF returns are from her family  :-\

Thankfully her bank hasn't charged her for the NSF's

We had to stop taking checks about two years ago.  What we would do is call their bank and find out if the funds were there and the majority of the time they had no money.   Then they would just pay with cash or credit card.   I do not even send out checks anymore.  Cash or card now.

What $'s are we talking about?  In terms of total bad debt receivables?  If the amounts are large enough, I'm aware of some commercial collection agencies, but none that would be helpful for smaller mom/pop size shops.

If you're interested, PM and I'll try to get you a reputable contact.

I used to work for a collections law firm and have a few connections with debt buyers/sellers and a few agencies.  If you're still looking for some help shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help.
