Title: Indicators not working...help!
Post by: paddy217125 on June 01, 2014, 12:29:56 AM
G'day I have a '97 m600 and I recently bought new indicators for it, thinking it'd be an easy job I pulled my old ones off and it all worked perfectly but when I connected the wires onto the new ones it stopped working properly. If I indicate right both the fronts will flash and the back right indicator will flash. If I indicate left the from left indicator flashes but the back left indicator doesn't. The front one also flashes really quickly when indicating left. I've checked the bulb on the back left one and it's fine so I have no idea what the problem is!

Any help would be amazing

LEDs?  Is the blink rate too fast too?  If so you need either this  http://ledbulb-store.com/turn-signal-flasher-blinker-relay-12v-2-pin-motorcycle (http://ledbulb-store.com/turn-signal-flasher-blinker-relay-12v-2-pin-motorcycle)  (or 3 pin, Ducati uses both) or 5 watt resistors.  There are other brand relays for LEDs available.  The relay is easiest and cleanest, but does not does not always solve the problem, the resistors will.

Thanks I'll give that a crack. One other problem with the electricals sometimes my brake light will stay on if I activate it with the front brake. It'll turn off again if I wiggle the wires coming out of the brake lever. Any ideas how to fix this?

What bike does the OP have?  I believe (but have been known to be wrong) that the more recent Monster's incorporate the flasher relay in the instruments so can't be changed.  You therefore need to use in line resistors to get the cash rate right.  I personally use a resistor at each light but I gather you may get away with one on each side.  Assuming that resistance is the problem - I don't see how that would make the contralateral indicator flash.  Sounds more like a wiring mix up to me.  DX is for right and SX is for left.

'97.  Flasher under the seat.  '02 and up 2 valvers have the integrated flasher.

Your brake light problem might be as simple as dirt, either on the lever pivot , dowel that activates the switch, or the switch might be bad.  You will need to take the lever off and inspect.  Do not loose the dowel.  The switch is held in place by two 1mm. screws and nuts.  Loose them and you will find out 1mm. is a rare size fastener.  These screws also are used to adjust the switch.  Loosen, move switch, tighten.

Thanks for the help guys. The relay is under the seat and has all been fixed and they're back to working properly again :) the brake light was also an easy fix. Was just a dirty connection. Thanks howie!
