Title: Miles Per tank
Post by: Vic on June 10, 2014, 03:53:24 PM
Hey boys & Girls,

Just wondering how many miles do you get per tank (before the yellow light) [roll]

Thanks!

Which bike(s)?

On my S2R800 anywhere between 70 miles (track) and 140 (cruising)

At the yellow light (~1/3 gallon left), about 20 before it stops.

Others will have different results, different bikes, different tank volume, different use, different low fuel sensor behaviour...

I would say, between all the ducs I've owned, the average was about 120 miles under normal riding conditions. The 1098 would light around the 70 mile mark under agressive riding conditions.

140-150 from my M900. Not bad.
Cruising on a country highway run would get heaps more.

That's about normal for  my M900, too.

I did get over 200 when puttin' along with my wife's Harley group (twasn't a fun day)

I've gone 170 on my M900. and didn't push.

I typically fuel up at 150.

What? Really?

I fill up every 100 miles but that is before the light comes on.

I've run out too many times  :P

Absolutely.
I wouldn't lie to you.

Not about that, anyway.  ;D

I fill it within a 1/4" of the top, and I generally do not ride it like I stole it.
But honestly haven't seen much difference on how I ride.

For commuting (in heavy, stop-and-go traffic) the light comes on anywhere from 145 km-160 km (90-100 miles).

On my Monster 1100 EVO I can go 95-100 miles before the light comes on and then I'm looking for a gas station.  I've gone 20 miles after the light comes on and the most I've added was 3.1 gallons which means i had about 1/2 gallon in reserve.  I average around 34-35mpg, sometimes less.

I get 80 miles per tank during general city riding on my 1100evo and 100-110 miles per tank if doing highway only.

I'm averaging ~45 mpg with mixed city/hwy driving.  I fill up at the 150 mile mark, but have comfortable gone beyond that without hitting the yellow light.

Carbed M750

Commuting (7 miles of 20-35MPH limits) about 130 miles to the light
Riding (cruising like rolling all day on the Parkway around highway speeds) 160-170 miles
Riding (aggressive) 150 or so miles.

FWIW I'm getting 15-25 miles more w/ my CA cycleworks  tank on my 620-- so 160 to 175. The yellow light came on just out of range of a gas station. I took a gravel road short-cut and the light went out for the next 10 miles or so. Now I shake and tilt the bike when I top off.

That's about normal for  my M900, too.

I did get over 200 when puttin' along with my wife's Harley group (twasn't a fun day)

This happened to me too but with a sport touring group on my 695. It never had a chance to cool down and we were riding fairly aggressive.

04 620 - when the light worked years ago, it would come on pretty consistently at 160.  Light is on all the time now.  It usually turns off around 160, then comes back on a few miles later.

THat said, I do know that straight commuting, I can get ~210 miles out of a tank.

06 s2r1k mainly back roads and twisty's my light is on between 80-90.  Prior to full exhaust I was between 105-115

75 miles each way commuting, keep it around 85 (indicated) and the light comes on around 135-140 ish. when I fill up around 150-155 miles, I put anywhere from 2.9-3.1 gallons. This is a 2006 S2R1000 with BoomTubes, PCIII, vented airbox, 520 gearset with 15/43 sprockets. I also do between 10-20 miles each way of lane splitting at lower speeds.

2008 S4RS with full termi pipes, ecu, headwork. ~100 miles before the light. 80 if I'm riding higher in the RPMs for longer distances.

Wow 100 would be great - are you running the stock DP ECU or has it been tweaked?

I swear mine blows raw fuel out the exhaust when sitting at a light. Once I was next to a Prius and the guy phoned his girlfriend to complain about the guy on a bike next to him with a giant carbon footprint (although I don't know how he could hear her) [evil]

Yeah the ecu profile was tweaked. If I'm cruising I'm usually at 4-4.5k RPM. What is your riding style?

Do you spend a long time above 7k RPM?

Title: Re: Miles Per tank
Post by: dbran1949 on June 19, 2014, 12:48:38 PM
only the occasional blast above 7k mostly stay in the 5 to 6k range

The power band is pretty flat between 5k and 6k, so are you really gaining much by cruising there? I ride around at 4k because that is the slowest engine speed i can maintain without obnoxious vibrations. The hills here are pretty tame, so the engine never seems to bog when climbing them. My sprockets are 14/43 btw. Lower engine RPM leads to better fuel economy .

Is your air filter clean?

YMMV, cheers and enjoy your S4RS..

It's in for 15k service so air cleaner will get replaced. I'll see how it does after. Same 14/43 here
thanks for the info
