Title: 2011 696 electrical issues
Post by: wiggsmeister on June 18, 2014, 08:18:48 PM
Hi everyone. I'm having some electrical problems on my 2011 696. My running headlight and tail light went out the other day while riding. Brake light still works, all blinkers work, basically everything electronic works except the running lights.

I changed out all the fuses, and sure enough one of the old ones was burnt, but still no luck with all new fuses. I also noticed that one of the replacement fuses got slightly burnt just from turning the bike on and having currents flow through it for 30 seconds.

Is there something else easy to check or is it a bad electrical snake? BTW, the snake I have is not the original. I had the original replaced under warranty for similar issues.

Any thoughts would he much appreciated!

Thanks

I also just noticed that the problem fuse blows as soon as I turn the key. It sparks, in the box and fuse is burnt. Is it a bad fuse box maybe?..

Check the plastic multi pin connector behind the headlight. Only a quick guess but these have been known to be a problem. Look for burned wires/pins.

I think I figured out what it is. I had to reconnect my taillight because the blinker wasn't working and I might have an exposed wire touching the frame or something back there. I'm hoping that'll be it and I'll stop blowing my fuses!

I don't know if this helps but here's a pic of the fuse box. the 15 on top is the one that keeps blowing.

I don't know if posting that pic will work..
