Title: cylinder base gasket compatibility 600 --> 750?
Post by: Nibor on June 25, 2014, 06:34:46 AM
relating to a potential ebay purchase for my rebuild, will this base gasket for a 1994-1997 m600 fit my 1997 m750? im guessing not, but i do know more parts tend to fit between these two sizes than the 750 and 900, ie wheels, exhaust diameter etc...

thanks in advance! :)

sweet, thanks for that!
where do you find all the parts numbers? ive tried searching online, but found nothing simple/easy to use. ducati omaha only have an online catologue back to 2000 :-\

ive got a few oil leaks on the engine in to fix, plus working on the carbs/intake, and possibly the exhaust, and definitely need fork seals. over hear in Oz parts from the Ducati shop often cost an arm and a leg, so its cheaper to buy overseas and ship and still save!! local service has its advantages though too.

thanks again Darkmonster!

your bike is build 01/98, which should mean it's one of the first lot of m750 into au and as such it's a 97 model.  single disc, silver engine covers, clutch slave as part of clutch cover.

600 pre 98 redesign has smaller cylinder spigot, so you need pre 98 750 parts.

I checked '97 M750 and '97 M600

the fiches show the same # too.  i've seen std style al base gaskets too small for a 750 (on my 750 motor when i got it), so i wonder where they came from.  wonder what an early 400 had?

I've got a set of 400 heads and cylinders in a very dusty box.... I'll look at 'em.

looking at your bore/stroke calculator page Brad, the 600 and 750 have a different bore? thus the gaskets must (should) be different size?

with the part number give ive since found a listing for 97 m/ss750 gasket.
i do still need to be sure if i actually need it, and the oil leak isnt coming from somewhere else.

is it any kind of worthwhile replacing cylinder head and base gaskets, including as preventative nature? by taking the heads and barrels off, is there m/any other parts i need to replace when reassembling, or other things i should do whilst in there?

the bike has a bit over 70,000km on it now, oil leaks from the alternator cover, possibly the vert head, and i think (but hope not!) the case halves between the two cylinders, at the top. if it is leaking/weeping there, its only enough to colour the surface with an oily tinge, not a decent leak like the alternator. im hoping its just collecting there in the centreline, and coming from somewhere else less labour intensive!

There is no head gasket...just some o-rings on the oil passages.

this old chestnut.

been googling some info for the build, funnily enough this post turns up high up in the results haha. looks like I have 2x Vertical cylinder gaskets, and 0x horizontal.

luckily Brad has o-rings, and the city has gaskets.

try this link for Ducati models older than '01 !
http://www.millwaysparesonline.com.au/partFinder/year/4/2007#anchor_model (http://www.millwaysparesonline.com.au/partFinder/year/4/2007#anchor_model)

FYI, the link should Ducati model ranges, so just go to year and model from there.
