Title: What weather do you ride in? Post by: jmdaia on July 01, 2014, 05:11:22 AM I am new to this forum and was curious to weather or not Ducati owners rode year round.
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: 1.21GW on July 01, 2014, 05:40:28 AM Yes, especially in California. ;)
Really, it depends on the rider, not the weather or the bike. Some of us even ride in snow, as this member does: Just to show I'm not just starting it but riding in the snow too. ...but not me, because I''m a wimp. ;DDucati Monster Goes To Work - Bike (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4irRAZ8hkgQ#) Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: Dirty Duc on July 01, 2014, 06:39:35 AM We don't get much snow around here, but if it is snowing at the house when it's time to leave I won't ride.
I draw the line at 19 degrees ambient although I've ridden colder. Wind and rain don't bother me much. Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: NAKID on July 01, 2014, 07:20:54 AM I live in SoCal, and I ride year round. I do ride in the rain, but if it's going to be a major downpour, I avoid riding that day if possible. I've been caught a few times in a bad storm coming home from work. Biggest problem for me was visibility...
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: SpikeC on July 01, 2014, 07:49:03 AM Up here in Puddletown I've always ridden year round, butt I don't ride in the snow or ice anymore now that I'm retired! It is all about having the right gear, don'tchaknow!
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: seevtsaab on July 01, 2014, 08:47:11 AM Rain or shine. Snow, not so much, I have been out in it, below freezing it gets too dangerous imo.
Once the salt goes down I am done. Turns out I can't leave the cage parked for weeks or the battery goes flat so the worse rain I might cage it in, particularly if t-storms are imminent. I start to get choosy about it now around 20F. Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: the_Journeyman on July 01, 2014, 09:06:18 AM Heat, rain, cold (worst was 9ºF) even rode home from work in the snow a couple times.
JM Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: Skybarney on July 01, 2014, 10:13:09 AM I have many many miles in rain and snow. These days I no longer need to do that (bike was only transportation) as I have other vehicles.
Now my duc is my toy bike and I try not to subject it to rain or snow. Only been caught out once in a minor sprinkle in 12k miles. Even that I saw coming as weather forecasting is a bit of a specialty due to my profession. Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: ZLTFUL on July 01, 2014, 10:17:58 AM I typically ride until ice/snow build up on the roads prevents it and even then, I sometimes get a wild hair and ride anyway.
Of course, traction control, ABS and heated gear makes it easier to decide. Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: JoeP on July 01, 2014, 10:34:33 AM Clear with temps between 68 and 73F, wind no more than 10mph, and only during Starbucks business hours.
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: memper on July 01, 2014, 11:28:36 AM On the other end if its too hot I wont ride. 95F, leather, nyc traffic, hot motor. Fuggetaboutit.
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: StephenC on July 01, 2014, 01:00:35 PM I ride all year around. It doesn't get much colder than 10 C here though. I don't let the rain stop me, I just dress appropriately and drip when I get where I'm going.

I used to ride year round when I lived in Phoenix too. Hottest I rode in was 118°F...Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on July 01, 2014, 04:17:22 PM I'll ride in most weather short of snow.
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: teddy037.3 on July 01, 2014, 04:47:05 PM rain doesn't scare me.

Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: jmdaia on July 02, 2014, 02:24:39 AM I commute in a small town environment and try to ride everyday durring the week regardless of the weather and have only one rule - don't start out if it is raining.
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: HotIce on July 02, 2014, 05:29:15 AM I ride every day, summer and winter, when chance of rain <20% and temperature >45F. Which is about 330 days a year around here [coffee]

Oddly enough, I'm in the same boat. I'd rather ride in the cold than the hot. JM Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: SDRider on July 03, 2014, 12:49:41 PM All kinds. And since I live in San Diego, CA that pretty much means sunny or marine layer.
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: Moronic on July 04, 2014, 12:21:58 AM All weather. Don't get snow here.
Actually, the worst riding weather here is midsummer, when temperatures will frequently soar over 40C (that's 104F). I don't ride much in midsummer. I find midwinter rain much more pleasant. Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: bob795 on July 04, 2014, 08:50:07 AM Same here, we don't have snow here in Indonesia so I ride all year round rain or shine. Motorcycle is most useful in rain, or after a rain, when cars usually stuck in horrible traffic jam.
Title: Re: What weather do you ride in? Post by: grunte on July 19, 2014, 04:45:32 PM I am a total fair weather rider. Below 60 and you really have to twist my arm to ride.
