Want to lose my side panels because I do like the look of the trellis frame under the seat and it just looks more naked that way to me. I see there's some wiring socket connectors on the right side that would be pretty easy to relocate under the seat but on the left side there is this thing thats more bolted on to the frame. I dont see an issue with relocating it but I'd like to know what it is for my own information and in case it needs to be attached to the frame for grounding purposes.
anyone? anyone?

It's an ignition coil
Does it need to be bolted to the frame for grounding?

Nope. You can relocate it if you'd like. I've seen a few bikes where people have "cleaned up" the sides and relocated the coils.
They're pretty important, though, so just make sure they're mounted snugly and protected a bit.
I mounted it under the seat near the regulator/rectifier after removing the breather tank. Fabbed up a small aluminum plate to mount everything to.
