The rest is really just a clean, metal-y monster. Looks good, though. A bit more than that. That's at least a custom tail, and a custom shaped tank. Title: Re: Post by: 1.21GW on August 08, 2014, 07:33:54 AM A bit more than that. That's at least a custom tail, and a custom shaped tank. Yeah, I know. Indicators, belt covers, rearsets, etc. are not stock. But I mean the look overall is not that different from stock monsters, only more metal-y. Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: 1.21GW on August 08, 2014, 07:36:38 AM Wait, where's the oil cooler?
Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: The ModFather on August 08, 2014, 08:03:42 AM Gauges, headlight & Air intake modded & the clutch cover has been "chromed".
Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: Triple J on August 08, 2014, 08:10:24 AM Wait, where's the oil cooler? Looks like an M750 that didn't ever have one? Maybe a 620 motor in an older frame? It's a wet clutch model regardless. Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: ducatiz on August 08, 2014, 08:20:01 AM (http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l309/ducatiz/moto/FM-cafe-pantah/69008402.jpg)

Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: The ModFather on August 12, 2014, 06:05:14 PM I do love the 900SS cafe racers that seem to be proliferating though! Something about that oddly shaped tank that looks great on a naked little cafe bike.

Never saw. Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: Rudemouthsky on August 13, 2014, 09:11:06 AM Isn't a true cafe racer, a bike that was probably not built for speed or performance but stripped down to it's bare essentials and modified only for performance, and within a restricted budget? I'd say find the most naked Monster you've ever seen, with only simple mods like a chopped airbox/jetting/light flywheel and there's your cafe Monster.
The Monster *is* already a cafe racer in a way... Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: 1.21GW on August 13, 2014, 09:29:05 AM Isn't a true cafe racer... I agree based on the historical origination of "cafe racer". However, the definition has clearly expanded to reflect a certain look nowadays, and in the process it has become pretty much unhinged from its original reference to stripped down bikes aimed at achieving "the ton". Language is organic, maannnnn. Quit trying to put things in neat little boxes! ;D Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: Rudemouthsky on August 13, 2014, 10:34:57 AM Oh I'm normally fine with colloquial irregularities. But as far as motorcycles go a spade is a spade!

Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: Spidey on August 13, 2014, 03:06:58 PM spidey's bike is cool, but not as cafe as stu's first bike I'm wit' ya. I don't think of mine as "cafe." It's purty though (but way less so as I continue to beat the shit out of it). Stu's 750CR . . . now that's a cafe racer. [drool] I'm sure there are pics on the board of these, but can we get a re-post here for convenience? Never saw. 1. (http://www.ducatimonster.org/featured/2005june/CRW_3317.jpg) 2. See above. Or I can show you a pic of the IZ-nail I got in my tire the other day? :'( Edit, here's a cafe-esque ass-shot of mine: (http://www.ducatimonster.org/featured/2007july/0706_warren_monster_026.jpg) 3. My personal take would require the following:
Naked !!! No fairings!! including bikini headlight fairings! (with the exception of a bubble fairing - hey I just love those sorry.) Low set handle bars (e.g. clip-ons, clubman etc.) giving you a forward aggressive riding position Classic Round headlight - you put one of those trapezoidal headlights on and now it looks like a SF. I dont think it has to be "modified" to be a Cafe Racer. As some bikes IMO are cafe racers right out of the factory. e.g. the New Norton 961s [drool] or the Ducati Sport 1000S or Sport 1000 Classic. Really the term just comes in handy because how do you categorize your bike to a laymen when you have to? Sport bike? Cruiser? Chopper? Bobber? I think Cafe is the best description for the Monster for sure. Maybe we need to invent a new term to describe Ducati Monsters. Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: memper on August 14, 2014, 03:52:33 AM Is it a cafe racer? Not really but found this in my search for Duc cafe bikes. It was just too sweet not to post. Just pretend it's sitting in front of a Starbucks..

What is the purpose of the rod connecting the rear caliper to the engine case on Duck Stu's bike? Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: ducpainter on August 14, 2014, 05:24:08 AM Spidey: thanks for posting the pics. [thumbsup] Most Monsters have a lug on the swing arm to serve the same purpose...keeps the caliper from winding up like a top. What is the purpose of the rod connecting the rear caliper to the engine case on Duck Stu's bike? The rod is just way cooler. Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: MendoDave on August 14, 2014, 06:25:54 AM Spidey: thanks for posting the pics. [thumbsup] What is the purpose of the rod connecting the rear caliper to the engine case on Duck Stu's bike? The Idea has been around for a while. It even works on drum brakes. Like a top?? You mean the rotation of the rotor would cause the caliper to move over time? The rod is just way cooler. Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: MendoDave on August 14, 2014, 08:25:43 AM Like a top?? You mean the rotation of the rotor would cause the caliper to move over time? Yea, Like as soon as you stepped on the brake. The caliper or brake shoe would grab hold of the spinning disk and start spinning too. That would result in the brake line or cable twisting into a knot and breaking. Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: ducpainter on August 14, 2014, 08:33:48 AM Yea, Like as soon as you stepped on the brake. Exactly.Title: Re: Cafe Monsters Post by: 1.21GW on August 14, 2014, 12:33:13 PM Got it. Thanks Mendo Painter.
