Title: What forks do I have? 2000 m900 dark
Post by: michalik.piotr6837 on August 12, 2014, 10:40:21 PM
retty sure they are stock (Showa? no name on them anywhere) what came on the bike.

The web says 43mm?

I measured at the lower triple and it comes out to 54mm.

Measurement at top triple comes out to 50mm.

Looking to buy adjustable forks as upgrade.... what size do i need?

Also, would a complete front end off a 996 including triples work? Is the center nut/steering head, etc. the same? Or?

Thanks in advance, Peter

The 43mm is the diameter of the stanchion tube, that the bottom of the fork attaches to.
I don't know about the steering stem differences, though.

I think the common upgrade is ducati SBK forks like those from a 748, which require a slight bore on top (from 50mm to 53mm??) and a shim on bottom (from 54mm to 53mm?).  The calipers, etc all fit so the rest of the swap is pretty easy.

People also do a GXR swap, but you'll have to search the board for details on that.

your 2000 model has a 25mm axle and 65mm brake caliper mount spacing.  all 748/916/996 forks are 25mm axle, but the 65mm caliper spacing started in 98 or 99.  apart from that triple clamp mods as 1.21 says.

similar year gsxr forks should go straight in, axle size is the same i believe, not sure about caliper and mudguard mounting
