Title: S4R bar clamps
Post by: iainw on August 30, 2014, 12:29:22 AM
I'm a noob on here having just bought an S4R. I've been trawling around these pages for a couple of weeks now and it sure is a mine of good information. Here's my first question and no doubt I'll have many more.

My bike has 40mm bar risers on and when I pick up some shorter bolts this weekend I'm going to put the height back to standard. The clamps have a direction arrow on them and are pointing backwards, to me this is wrong, it should be the direction of travel, as on tyres and wheels. I couldn't find anything in the workshop manual or parts diagrams to show the correct orientation of the clamps, though I did check out a close up pic of an S4R on the bay and that had them pointing backwards.

Which is correct, point forwards or backwards?

Thanks,
Iain

Arrow is not really for forward or backward.

The clamps are not symmetrical, they're slightly longer on the arrow side.

The bolt is meant to be tightened fully on the arrow side, such that the bottom surface of the clamp is flush down against the top surface of the mating area on the riser.

Then the other bolt is to be tightened to clamp the bar.
There will be a gap between the clamp and the riser on that side.

The factory service manual says to point the arrows toward the tank.
