Title: Do Camshaft End Cap Bearings face in or out?
Post by: The ModFather on September 21, 2014, 08:02:16 AM
Putting my camshaft end cap back together after getting it PC'd. Now I cant remember if the bearings were facing in towards the engine right under the circlip or facing out. Or  maybe a better way of putting this is should the ball bearings be visible when they are seated in the end cap?

For a 2005 Monster 620

Okay found it in this exploded diagram. The face in towards the engine. (duh) Putting the link here in case anyone else has this question in the future.

Not knowing for certain, I would have the balls visible for lubrication purposes.

Otherwise the seal would prevent oil from entering the bearing.

oops...beat me to it.

the sealed face is showing.  the bearing is pressure fed from the centre of the cap, and the seal holds the oil in so it will flow into the cam.

Oh No! Are you saying the bearings shouldnt be visible ?? Damn I was thrown by that diagram which makes it look like bearings are facing the engine and are therefore visible when seated in the endcap!

Yes, bearings visible is correct.

Now Ive got conflicting recommendations here. Is it different for different bikes? This is for a 2005 620. And the pic in the Haynes Guide is way too grainy to tell. I seem to recall being surprised to see bearings once I got them out which makes me think sealed side visible but I cant be sure. I wish I took a pic. Any definitive answers out there?

I did find this pic which is for an M900 and this is what I think they looked like which appears to be sealed side visible.

Okay found a bunch on ebay and they all seem to show sealed side visible.
