It's an oil pressure sensor.

New one can be bought a a dealer.

Also, I think there's alternate ones available elsewhere, check this thread:

yeah those things fail often. part number is 53940302a, 45.99 and any dealer can order it for you and have it in 3 days (if they don't have it in stock, which they should)

if you cant drop the 50$ now you can get a plug  (part number 78050012a) and crush washer (85250241a) and run without a pressure sensor while you get the new one. the plug and crush washer combined are about 3$ tops.

personally I run without a oil PSI light. theory being that if the bike loses oil pressure its going to blow up before that light kicks in anyway. I dunno, I like the look of the motor without the wire and don't feel that losing the light is much of a risk, up to you.

U got me thinking now...
The light was commin' on a few times when the engine was hot and the bike was at idle. I wonder if that was just the sensor ?!

Want to be sure?  Hook up a mechanical gauge, which you should do before changing the sensor anyway.  at idle you should have at least 2.5 BAR (36 PSI) cold and 1.1 BAR (16 PSI) hot above 3000 RPM 4-6 BAR (58-87 PSI).

Good info right there, who knew?? Thanks. Another alternative would be replacing it with a trick looking liquid filled gauge like this:

But these are tough to find in the correct M10x1.0 size and pitch, although the 1/8th pipe thread they usually come in is so close, you could either run a die over it to make it fit or tap the hole in the engine case. People on the sohc/Jap bike forums do it all the time with no issues. That's the route Monsta took for his epic M900 rebuild and it's also the route I'm going. Monsta was able to find the correct sized sensor tho, and nothing I do should ever be construed as sound logic. ;)
