Title: Oil leak from bolt bottom of pan
Post by: cbcanada on September 22, 2014, 05:07:25 AM
There is an oil leak started on the bottom of my bike (oil pan) coming from one of the Allan bolts ..

Is this a matter of just tightening it more?

I am not sure if the leak was there before and I didn't notice it but there was a lot of oil hardened and crusted up on the bottom which I recently cleaned and every since I am noticing some chips drops in the morning on the floor.

Clean, run and inspect.  Oil travels.  Could be from the filter, drain plug or somewhere higher up.  Still can't find it?  Aerosol foot powder and follow the stain.  Careful, do not overtighten the bolts.  Easy to strip.

I did all that and found it already. It is coming from the bolt in the picture I attached to the original post

My question is does this bull need to be replaced or just simply tightened?

Correction it is coming from the oil drain plug I guess I did not tighten it enough after the last oil change so I just give it another quarter turn

easy there .  .  . it might strip it might loose the hexagonal shape . . . then you gonna be in a world of hurt trying to get it out via chisel . . .

The little bit of tightening seems to have done the trick

Thanks to everybody that chipped in and I will definitely look into ordering that part looks to be a good thing to have
