Title: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: The ModFather on September 29, 2014, 05:09:29 PM Lookin at possibly pickin up a 2015 Diavel Dark or Carbon as a second bike to my Monster. As a long time member I hold the members of this forum in high regard in such matters so I'm looking for any insight and/or opinions on the new Diavels. In other words I trust your opinion more than the dealer, my friends or my wife when it comes to bikes. ('specially a duc)

Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: pesto on September 29, 2014, 06:39:31 PM Only one that ever caught my eye was the Chromo or something. I sat on one and was impressed by how light it felt given the power. That said, never ridden one =). GL!

Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: DarkMonster620 on September 30, 2014, 05:30:55 AM Being able to ride bikes when I finish performing the "pre-delivery inspection" and riding them as part of the service procedure, I can say the following:
1. As said before, feels amazingly light for the size/weight 2. Power is just, intoxicating, even in Urban mode[100Hp] 3. Riding position, at least for me, feels weird, leaned a bit more forward than a Monster not quite a cruiser not quite a Monster, feet are in that middle position not back not forward 4. 2 models avail for 2015 FL year, Dark and Carbon, not many of the "old" Diavel parts compatible with new model. FL= face lift 5. Good for 2 up riding Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: thought on September 30, 2014, 06:25:09 AM I think if I were to look at a bike of this class.. I'd be really cross shopping the Moto Guzzi Griso over the Diavel. The Diavel will def be the better performer, but something about the Griso has always made me lust over it. I was a fan of the Diavel at first but after I saw it enough in person it just died down.
Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: Drjones on September 30, 2014, 08:33:12 AM Most of the people I know who own one love them. The only complaint is that there are no choices other than the OEM for the rear tire and it has a short life span.
Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: Triple J on September 30, 2014, 11:27:54 AM I didn an extended test ride on a Divael Carbon a few years back. Nice bike if you like the looks and the riding position is OK. The looks didn't bother me as much as the riding position, which was terrible for me.
Tons of motor. Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: SDRider on September 30, 2014, 12:16:55 PM I rode a Diavel Carbon a couple years ago while my bike was in for something or other. They let me take it to work and then ride it back to pick my bike up after. I put probably 30 miles or so on it including a couple jaunts on the freeway. I was surprised by how easy it is to ride and how well it handles and brakes. It is fast as hell too. Only things I don't like about it are the riding position and the cartoonish looks. You feel like you sit in it rather than riding on it and there is zero wind protection and with the riding position you can't really use your lower back to help support your torso at freeway speeds and the faster you go, the worse it gets.
Just not my thing I guess. I'd rather have a Multistrada. Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: Skybarney on September 30, 2014, 04:24:42 PM Just not my thing I guess. I'd rather have a Multistrada. +1 A Multi would be my second bike. Came damn close to trading my Monster for one but have way to much love (and cash) into the Monster for it to have worked out. Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: The ModFather on September 30, 2014, 04:31:56 PM I cant rock the beak on a Multi-strada just looks weird to me. But I am keeping the Monster. I do like the look of the Diavel & the riding position is a departure from my Monster with clip-ons. Which is a nice change sometimes. The only MS style bike I dig is the Triumph Tiger Explorer.

I do like the look of the Diavel & the riding position is a departure from my Monster with clip-ons. Which is a nice change sometimes. The only MS style bike I dig is the Triumph Tiger Explorer. I'm rather fond of the previous generation Multistrada, specifically the 1100 S. They are a relative bargain on the used market right now, a friend of mine picked up a 2007 with less than 8k miles for $7k a few months back. It needed some routine maintenance, which he did himself. You really need to know what you're looking at with these bikes though as the tank warpage issue is huge with the older Multis. I found my friend a NOS fuel tank for $599 on ebay that was perfect. He bought it and coated it himself, fixed all the minor issues and did all the maintenance and now he has a well sorted, low mileage sport touring machine for less than half what it cost new. I've ridden the newer Multis with the beak and they have grown on me. It's a hell of a bike too. 150hp, 4V liquid cooled, wind protection, heated grips, excellent chassis and brakes. Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: Triple J on October 01, 2014, 07:41:33 PM Did you check out the new Capnord? New Capo is great. I did an extended test ride on one. After having ridden both on long test rides I would take the Capo...but that's me. Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: twolanefun on October 02, 2014, 06:44:40 AM I love mine, all day comfortable, despite what some may think it handles great, brakes are fantastic, power is almost too much, very smooth motor, and does not mind chugging along at 3k RPM then grabbing a handful. I've had mine on multiple day trips, luggage options are not great, the OEM tank bag is huge and easy to mount for a trip, good for 2 days on road, except you'll need a small bag strapped to the rear seat for tools etc...I plan to buy a Ventura system for mine, the rails do not detract too much from the look. I have the 2013 blue/white version with the backrest mod by DucPond, which is great for my GF and removes easily with 2 bolts. The seat cowl does not fit with the Touring seat. The bike may be the best bike I've ever owned and I have tons of miles on a lot of bikes/brands. Feel free to ask me anything about the bike, so far I have 4K on mine on all kinds of roads, and yes it is fun in the twistys, lookup Philippi WV on goggle maps, follow Rt. 119 to Buchannon then find Rt. 20 and follow it all the way down to Princeton WV, just led a ride several weeks ago with a Tuono, Hyper, GC, and Truimph Street Triple, no problems leading that ride and setting a spirited pace. - Gene
Title: Re: Diavel 2015 Thoughts? Post by: iRam on October 03, 2014, 07:31:44 AM I had an extended seat time on a Diavel chromo when my bike was in for service. Bike is real easy to ride. I rode it on my favorite backroad twisties and some highways and it performed really well on both roads. I have no clue on how comfortable it would be for long hauls but its probably going to be more comfortable than the monster.

Post by: twolanefun on October 05, 2014, 06:53:41 PM Congrats, don't forget to ride the Monster, mine has nor been ridden as much lately, the Diavel is so good, but I had my M900 out for a spin today - it' still special, puts a pretty wide grin on my face. The Diaval is around 2 seconds faster in the 1/4 than a HD Dyna Low Rider. The Harley has more torque but less HP. Stats in video. https://screen.yahoo.com/smoked-2014-harley-davidson-dyna-200121352.html JM |
