Title: Starter help
Post by: brecchi on October 02, 2014, 12:54:23 PM
On a 2001 Monster Dark 900.  The battery is good, the fuel pump and everything comes on when the bike is turned on.  When I hit the starter, it tries to fire then dies.  If I hold it down, this repeats every couple of seconds, but doesnt last long enough to start the bike. Its been intermittent, but seems to be permanent now.

How did you test the battery?

Yep.  You It needs to be fully charged and load tested.  How is the cranking speed?  Are you using the fast idle lever?  If the battery load tests well and cranking speed is good try starting the bike while looking through the filler cap.  A lot of turbulence in the gas tank?  Check the internal fuel lines.

So the battery was way lower than I had initially thought.  Gave it a full charge which took several hours and the bike started up, although with a slight hesitation at first.  Going to test it to see if I need a new one.  Thanks for guiding me to the simplest thing first!
