Title: Modifying M1100 rear axle? Qtn for machinists
Post by: mickb on October 04, 2014, 04:46:55 AM
Hi,
Would you think its possible to 'cut' the wheel-mounting plate from a 1098 rear axle, and have this fitted to a M1100 axle (after removing existing plate)?
If so, is this a huge job, or is it possible to put a rough estimate in terms of hours required?

thanks

I think that would not be a soundly engineered solution.

The mounting plate is not the only difference between the two, so you still would not be able to mount the 1098 wheel on the M1100.

ok, thanks. I know the brake rotor is off-set, do you know of any other differences?

I believe the diameter of the axle is bigger on the 1098.  This is the non-trivial part of what I think you are trying to do.
