After 13,000 miles, this morning for the first time I started it up and the amber error light came on. When I scrolled thru the menu I found "ERROR FUEL"
Bike ran fine so I proceeded @ 12 miles when light went out until next morning.
Same scenario.
Any thougts?
The ECU determined your bike has a fuel sender unit has an electrical problem. If you need a sending unit it is not cheap, but not a running problem if you use your trip meter.
your bike must be a prototype, since it is a 2006 M696 . . .
Correction on typo - it is a 2009 - not a 2006
And thank you Howie - I use the trip meter anyway but at least now I know there is not a serious problem
I must have auto corrected 2006 in my head.
My '09 M1100 gave me the same error last year (?) I think. It did it a few times then I never saw it again.

I never got an "answer" about it.

I wanted to be sure it was a M696 . . .
the M696 has a thermistor in the fuel pump flange, apart from the fuel filter, this the other part that can be replaced from said assembly[as per factory] . . . this issue was present in a bike that was imported . . . it seems customer solved the issue by purchasing said thermstor . . . but, don't believe me, I did not perform said repair
