Title: '02 M620 Oil Leak
Post by: MonsterDamo on November 04, 2014, 07:44:46 PM
Finally got around to putting the ol' 620 back together but have a decent oil leak from the clutch slave. I preemptively replaced the two O-rings on the control rod as well as the O-ring on the OEM slave but it appears that this is where the oil leak is originating.

Any thoughts? I seem to remember reading that the entire OEM slave can warp over time. Could that be the cause of the leak?

Warp? not likely.  Leak over time?  Yes.  If you can't determine whether the fluid is brake fluid or engine oil, and yes, it can be difficult, remove the three screws and inspect.  Brake fluid would be coming from the weap hole in the back. Also, the side case can develop a leak under the slave.

It's an oil leak.

As I said, I've replaced the two O-rings on the clutch control rod and the O-ring on the clutch slave, but am still getting oil from that spot.

So I guess what I want to know is whether the control rod is meant to be swimming in oil and the slave is meant to seal the engine, or whether there is an issue with the control rod not sealing on the other side of the engine.

The push rod is supposed to be in oil.

The slave o-ring stops dirt from entering the slave.

If it's leaking engine oil and not hydraulic fluid either the o-rings got damaged, the side cover is leaking, or perhaps the output shaft seal is leaking.
