Title: Turning an Engine by Hand?
Post by: MonsterMadMarty on November 23, 2014, 06:39:14 PM
I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine to my 93 M900. The motor is mostly complete and I'm just waiting on a few minor part before I put everything back together.  I've been turning the engine by hand via the alternator inspection cover and decided to loosen the oil line that connects to the cylinder to see if oil was flowing.  It's not!

Is this because there isn't enough presurre from hand turning or is something wrong? If this is normal is it ok to be turning the engine without oil getting to the cylinder?

not turning fast enough to build up  oil pressure

Those two lines are to let oil return to the crankcase after it's delivered to the cylinder.

Crank it with the starter motor, then you'll get oil delivered where it's supposed to go.

if it was dry it'll need quite a lot of turning.  you can do it tho.
