Title: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: Crazy Canadian on July 13, 2008, 10:39:12 AM My friends complain that my bike stinks and it smells way to rich and that their eyes burn after following me for a while. They say it certainly isn't lean and they have been riding a long time and seem to know what they are talking about. I'm getting my new exhaust in the mail any day, so this should be a plus once I add the exhaust if I have been reading right, correct? It seems that issues generally lie with them needing more fuel once getting the exhaust on. Mine is a 2007 S2R800 and my exhaust is Arrow full with carbon cans.

Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: Qfactor on July 13, 2008, 01:22:39 PM Mine was setup rich down low in the RPM, then lean in the mid-range, then a bit rich at high RPM's.
a PC3 fixed it all up. Q Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: Crazy Canadian on July 13, 2008, 02:55:38 PM I can't get a PCIII for my bike apparently.

Correct you can't, but you can get a Rapid Bike with O2 emulator and tune away just like a PC. Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: Crazy Canadian on July 13, 2008, 09:44:14 PM Correct you can't, but you can get a Rapid Bike with O2 emulator and tune away just like a PC. Weren't some people having problems with the rapid bikes emulators? Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: DRKWNG on July 13, 2008, 11:24:23 PM I can't get a PCIII for my bike apparently. This is not necessarily true. Some '07 S2R800s can use a PC and some can't. The way to tell is to simply look and see if your bike came equiped from the factory with O2 sensors (lamda probes). The '07 S2R800 that I just sold did not have them, and could use a Power Commander just fine. Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: DRKWNG on July 13, 2008, 11:27:25 PM Just trace the exhaust system from the header back, you can't miss them. There will be a probe with a wire coming from it there if you have them.
Just realized that you might be up in Canada? Not sure if the Canadian spec bikes are different from the US ones, but I know of four other 07 '800 riders who do not have O2 sensors on their bikes. Most of the European spec bikes do seem to have them though... It has a raised nipped with a hole in it that looks like it would accept a sensor but no sensor. This nipple is about 4-5 inches ahead of the udder, towards the front of the bike on the right hand side. My arrow full system is in transit. Will this be an issue? The exhaust may have come with a hole as well, but not be plugged like the factory one. So with that in mind, you can get the PCIII and use any of the stock maps that work for an '06 S2R800, or use it for your own dyno tuned map.
Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: Crazy Canadian on July 13, 2008, 11:39:11 PM Wow. Great heads up. Thanks!
Ummmm....Thanks for costing me MORE MONEY!!!! The mod wheels just keep turning! [thumbsup] LOL! Seriously, thanks for pointing that out. If my exhaust system runs fine without it, do I still need it or will it add more horsepower too? Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: DRKWNG on July 13, 2008, 11:42:57 PM No worries mate. Your bike might run ok without one, but as pointed out, it will run much better when properly tuned with one. Can't really say whether it will add any more total power, but it will make what power you have much smoother and easier to use. Should also even out your A/F mixture as long as it is mapped right.
One more thing, just to be certain, did you check the headers coming from both cylinders on your bike? Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: Crazy Canadian on July 13, 2008, 11:50:51 PM One more thing, just to be certain, did you check the headers coming from both cylinders on your bike? Hmmm... All I have is the short pipe from the front of the motor to the mid of the motor, and then another two piece section thats come back off the motor to the udder, then the cans coming off the udder. Is there something I missed? Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: DRKWNG on July 13, 2008, 11:52:59 PM Nope, just wanted to make sure you looked over the pipes coming from both cylinders. Started to second guess the clarity of my earlier post and wanted to make sure you looked at both before dropping the coin on something that you might have had problems with.
Title: Re: Lean vs. Rich from the factory - mine seems rich Post by: Crazy Canadian on July 14, 2008, 09:59:29 AM I just got notification that my exhaust is at the post office. Heading there now to pick it up. Although it could be my Rizoma mirrors...or both! Yee HA!

The exhaust may have come with a hole as well, but not be plugged like the factory one. I think that you are describing the test port for an exhaust gas analyzer. There should be a small plug on both headers, several inches away from the exhaust ports on the heads. On the S2R1K, the O2 sensor is located on the left side of the udder, just below the engine. I suspect it would be in the same location on the S2R, if there is one. |
