Title: HELP! 05 Monster 620 won't start
Post by: Rhongman on December 05, 2014, 01:12:42 PM
Hello everyone.  I've been away for a few years.  I'm back and hoping you guys can help me out.

Here's my problem.  Bike won't start.  It turns over though.  My 2005 Monster 620 has been stored away for a couple years.  The battery is completely dead.  There was a little fuel left in it but I didn't add any stabilizer before storage.  It has a Ducati Performance  chip and Termi kit plus a PC3.  Everything ran fine before storage.

I didn't buy a new battery yet, but I'm turning the motor over with an Antigravity XP-1 battery.

Please let me know if there's any other info that you need for a diagnosis.

What steps should I take in getting her back up and running like before?

Thanks for your help!!!

Fresh fuel, battery and plugs are a good start after storage for that period of time. Have you changed your oil and belts after two years of the bike sitting?

I hope you get away with fresh fuel only, because unstabilized fuel can turn to goop. Some use injector cleaners and products like Seafoam, etc.
Guys from up your way should chip in about that stuff.

Symptoms. Dash lights up? Fuel pump primes? Battery is fully charged and load tested?

Thanks for the help.  I'll start with the fresh fuel, battery, plugs and injector cleaner.  I'm sure it will start up with that.

When the jump start battery is connected the dash lights up and fuel pump is priming.

Update for future reference:

Fresh fuel and spark plugs did not work so I went into the tank to replace the fuel filter and found that the fuel line from the pump to the filter had corroded and ruptured.

I checked by turning the ignition.  When the pump tried to prime, gas came shooting out of the cracked hose.

Hopefully everything will be good to go after replacing the line.

Good luck!  While you're in the tank, do your best to dump out the old fuel and use some Sea Foam to clean up any goop or varnish.  Replacing the filter and the line sound like good ideas, too.
