Title: I'm embarressed...
Post by: ItsaDuc on December 07, 2014, 07:04:59 PM
So the bike is tucked away for the winter. Finally on its stands and battery tender hooked up.

This is when I realized that I only put about 600 miles on her this year! Yes, that you read that right. No, not banged up. Not in the shop for repairs. I suck!

In my defense, I switched to a new job early this year which is VERY close to home. My commute is now only about 5 miles which is part if the reason I believe  why I didn't even ride to work much. Just seemed easier to jump into my car rather than put all the gear on for a short ride. Add that to the increase in hours at work and I just didn't have the time to get out.

I'm ashamed. I'm embarrassed. Please tell me some of you have had a year like this at some point to help me understand my suckage.  :-[

Here's a solution:

Talk in km and it will seem like you rode more. What is that, like 1000 km?  Better.  Or use feet, which would put you at 3,768,000 for the year, which ain't half bad---you might even need to replace tires using that metric.

Ouch. That one stung .

This is the first time since I got the bike to have year like this. Won't happen again...that's for sure.

It is what it is; bikes are supposed to be fun! Sometimes "life" and reality get in the way. Riding is not a competition unless you're one of those "Butt" people.  ;D Just remember to "use it or lose it" periodically.

Guilt trips are a waste of time..., unless you're culturally disposed.  8)

(Riding 5 miles to work would also do more harm than good unless you REALLY take the long way.)

I work at home, so a couple times a week I take a couple of hours out to just go for a ride or run errands on the bike (that is assuming the weather cooperates).

"I can't go riding because I have to... (fill in the blank)."

 Turn it around.

"I can't...(fill in the blank) because I'm going riding."

Ouch.  That happened to me once.  But now that you have admitted your problem it is easier to deal with.  I suggest these 12 steps as they worked for me.

1.    Come to admit you were powerless over Seat Time—that your life has become unmanageable.
2.    Come to believe that no power greater than a motorcycle could restore you to sanity.
3.    Make a decision to turn your will and your life over to The Highway of your choice.
4.    Make a searching and fearless moral inventory of your neglect to enjoy.
5.    Admit to your Bike, to yourself, and to another human being the exact nature of your wrongs.  (DONE!)
6.    You are entirely ready to have The Highway remove all these defects of character.
7.    Humbly ask The Highway to remove your shortcomings.
8.    Make a list of all tires you have harmed, and become willing to thank them all, and buy new ones.
9.    Made direct amends to your Bike and The Highway wherever possible, except when to do so would road rash them or others.
10.  Continue to take personal inventory, and when you neglect to ride, promptly admit it.
11.  Seek through riding and carving to improve your conscious contact with The Highway as you understand it, hoping only for becoming one with The Bike            and The Highway and to have the torque to carry that out.
12.  Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we try to carry this message to those that neglect to ride as often as they should, and to
practice these principles in all our affairs.

 ;D

I want to see this.  Either via gopro or maybe I'll have to come all the way up for the track day.

All you Californians addicted to 12-step programs?  ;D

I'm addicted to the 13 step program.  In fact, I recommend skipping directly to the 13th step and avoiding all the previous steps.

13. Buy a brand new Ducati Multistrada.

If it works for me, it will work for you!  I've put almost 300 miles on mine in a little over a week of ownership.  :D  Seriously, I'm looking for reasons not to to ride it because I'm worried the miles will pile up too quickly.  I'll check the traffic report and if it shows any red on the freeways I commute on I've been taking the Multistrada.  Heated grips and a windshield are nice in the cool San Diego winter mornings and 150hp is always nice.  :D

I rode to work yesterday and again today.  I can't remember the last time I rode my Monster to work 2 days in a row... or more than once a week... or twice a month.  Hell, I haven't driven my car since last Thursday. :D :D :D

Lest anyone think I'm joking I put 18,000 miles on my car last year just in commuting.

I bought my Monster a month ago and put on over 300 miles since then despite it being the start of Winter and me being away from the bike at work during the week. OP needs to get his priorities straight.  [Dolph]

I probably put less than a 1,000 on mine this year as well, in my defense though, the Duc spent quite a lot of time in the shop with brake issues. I also spent a lot more time at the track this year riding the Gixxer 750, plus I just picked up a little Ninja 300 for more track fun.

I'm working long hours at work, and I have a 1 mile commute.. ya ONE MILE- so I guess like 2 miles both ways... and I still managed to put 1000 miles on the 1198 within the first 2 weeks of owning it. BOOM
