Title: Tail Chop on 2007 S2R800's = different than all other models?
Post by: Crazy Canadian on July 13, 2008, 02:48:54 PM
I'm about to order a kit or do this myself and have run across a few posts mentioning that this is not quite as easy on this particular model and year, and naturally, that is the bike I have?  In addition to posts talking about the standard kits not working without additional mods, there seems to be some concern about the seat lock actuator not working properly after this mod.  How hard is it going to be for me to make this work.  I'm not especially handy. One post actually mentions need a zip tie to pull the latch after the chop????  Can anyone verify this and the supposed seat mods that need to be done?  Thanks.

I do recall something different about the '07 seat. Does it have moulded plastic knobs underneath? I remember someone here hacking them off. Or better yet get an aftermarket seat. Stock seat is really attrocious.

I did the Comp Werks chop on my 07 S2R 800.
The only issue I ran into was the following:

The signal light brackets have some clearance issues with the seat.
After I did the chop - I couldn't get the seat to latch down. It was really close though.

This was really easy to fix.

I put a couple washers under the latch mechanism to raise said mechanism up.
Now everything works and looks great  [thumbsup]

I have a 99 M900 - the cable latch thing affects my year. Its no big deal though.

Cool.  Sounds like an easy fix, at least on the competition works kit.   :)

The actual chop itself has no issues.
If you go with an integrated tail light and signals then you shouldn't have to worry about the clearance issue.

this was also the case with my old m620, as well as my 06 s2r1k.
same solution as mentioned above

Hello fellow Canuck:

I just did my 07 S2R 1K on the weekend with CW kit.  NO issues at all and seat latch came down fine.  The new Rizoma turnsignals I put get pushed down a bit from the cowl but I have adapters on the way.

Now chop that thing!!

I chopped the tail of my 06 S2R 800 without any issues.  I used the TPO mounting bracket and Clear Alternatives smoked integrated tail light and signals.  It took about 45 minutes (15 of which is with butt in full pucker while you saw through the frame).  Super easy install and looks great.

I can get a good deal on the Rizomas, but I actually prefer the look of the factory signals with the smoked clear alternatives lenses on my black bike.  The Cookie kit looks like it has a lot of bits and pieces, while the CW kit looks a little more prefab.  Am I wrong?  Which is less complicated to install?  Thanks guys. I almost have enough nerve to slice and dice. :)

i had the CW kit on my first monster, and the Cookie kit on my current monster.
both are quality, however, if the cookie kit does require a little more assembly.
i honestly like the CW kit better, but its a bit pricey...

If your of average mechanical ability go with the CW kit.  Do yourself a favor and either paint or powdercoat either kits before you install.  I powdercoated mine black (colour of the bike) just looks better.

+1 on the painting

Those parts look a little home-made in bare metal. Rattle-canned mine.

i have a 2007 695.  just finished the cookie chop
my seat was sitting on the brackets that hold the turn signals.  the screw and wires are right up against the 2 plastic stubs (that holds the wait of the rear seat

i cut half of a stub and it fits.
