Title: Which one would you pick 2014 M796 or M821? Post by: Javo on January 02, 2015, 12:13:47 PM Sup everyone!
I got some good news from my Credit Union, my loan came in and i am approve with no problems what so ever. I called the dealer and they have one 796 and two 821 then guy asked me if i wanted the 821 or the 796. I told him i did not know. I need to decide on one, and i need your help. Which one would you pick and why? Thanks a bunch!!!!! Javo Title: Re: Which one would you pick 2014 M796 or M821? Post by: stopintime on January 02, 2015, 12:56:33 PM Most important - buy the one you want most.
I think the 796 looks more sporty. Peak power and torque... 1,500 revs lower/sooner on the 796... priceless for inspired riding, but for most riders the smoothness of the new engines might feel better. Title: Re: Which one would you pick 2014 M796 or M821? Post by: SpikeC on January 02, 2015, 04:57:13 PM Personally, I would go for the 796 for its ease of owner servicing, the valves in particular. I have softened a little bit on this as I think that I could handle the four valve adjustment, butt the two valve is more straight forward. If you don't mind dropping a grand for a service then go for the increased power of the 821. For a regular guy riding around and occasionally blitzing the back road twisties there probably isn't that much difference, I suspect. The 2 valve Ducks are awfully well balanced bikes, though, and the bigger motor and more power is more for ego satisfaction than anything else.
Bear in mind that I ride a Bimota with an 1100DS motor, though! [Dolph] Title: Re: Which one would you pick 2014 M796 or M821? Post by: DarkMonster620 on January 02, 2015, 05:49:30 PM 796 hands down and if you can get the Termi kit, do it!!!
821 great, bike regarding servicing intervals, but, lacks "soul" and riding position is weird as you must ride on the arch of your feet not the ball of your feet . . . And a 14T front sprocket. ;D (Special one for the 796's though, so double check!) Title: Re: Which one would you pick 2014 M796 or M821? The only thing i dont like is that the bike is black and not red, but it has the red accent on the frame and wheel i think. I will take a picture this weekend and post it.

A 796 can be anything you want as long as you can find the OEM skins somewhere. Just don't buy the Chinese crap on eBay. Mine looks like this. The 796 has a red frame. Reflective red strips on black wheels. http://gallery.leica-users.org/d/383062-1/M+796_10S_LM-Pantah_C01S+_1200x800_.jpg (http://gallery.leica-users.org/d/383062-1/M+796_10S_LM-Pantah_C01S+_1200x800_.jpg)What is a Termi kit? Post by: geoffduc on January 02, 2015, 07:50:21 PM Go to the dealer and ride them both back to back that way you'll get to see which suits you and your riding style best, forget about the extra power of the 821 as that will only be used occassionally.
My 2 cents!! the 796 is a nicer looking bike with an easier to maintain motor and of coarse the single sided swingarm, try to add in termi's or a change of panels to close the deal, thats whats happening on this side of the pond... [thumbsup] Geoff... [coffee] BTW a customer without a part exchange at this time of the year is a sales guys dream so make sure you get the deal that you want... Nice looking bike, i do like the skins a lot, im gonna have to find those. will the Termi Kit void the warranty? and do you think i should asked the dealer to throw them in for me? and if so how much should i pay for them if the dealer says yes. Termi kit is ~ $1,600, so they won't be throwing that in. 8) Labor, maybe... Same with the skins. If Ducati still has them, those come from Bolognia via DSL in about a week. Some kits are cheaper than others. No idea whether a dealer will consider a 796 a "left-over" as it's air/oil-cooled and less complicated than a 4-valve. Maybe the dealer will give you a break on the whole package. Which dealer? Title: Re: Which one would you pick 2014 M796 or M821? Post by: DarkMonster620 on January 03, 2015, 05:55:31 AM Termi kit cost is about $1606.00 avg globally . . . installation is about 2hrs at my rate is $90.00 and if it is a new bike, I do a price package where the $1606.00 include installation, sure I give a discount on the part . . .
But as geoffduc said, ride both back to back . . . Title: Re: Which one would you pick 2014 M796 or M821? BMW Ducati Husqvarna Motorcycles of Atlanta. I spoke with a guy name Bobby, he said they only had one left and he would love to get rid of it. So maybe he will work with me.
