Title: 696 headlight on early Monster Post by: gajus on January 24, 2015, 06:09:55 AM It's winter here in the Netherlands so it's mod-time.
I'm busy building a 696 headlight on to my '93 M900. I know, not everybody likes the 696 headlight and it's mostly done the other way around. There are quite a few 696 and up Monsters with an old, round headlight. I'm probably not the first who does this but actually i've never seen pictures of an early Monster with a modern headlight. Imho the new headlight looks great but i don't like the way it's mounted on the 696. It's too close to the frontfork legs. So first i 've machined a few aluminium holders which provide some extra room between the fork legs and the headlight. (http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto1k0-8FNAO4GF.jpg) to be continued.. Title: Re: 696 headlight on early Monster Post by: gajus on January 24, 2015, 08:09:56 AM Blasphemy :D Don't judge it untill you see it when it's finished. ;) A small Koso tachometer comes on top of the headlight together with a homemade carbon flyscreen. This is how it was: (http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto550-W7WTZABA.jpg) The new set up will be in the same style but it will have a lower profile. It is a correct Monster after all. ;) Title: Re: 696 headlight on early Monster Post by: lazylightnin717 on January 24, 2015, 02:43:03 PM That's a nice lookin' classic right there!

The brackets that hold the standard tachometer are gone, instead of these there's a machined bracket which support the much smaller Koso tacho: (http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto1k0-VTD6HBIL.jpg) Now i 'm busy sorting out the wiring, anybody did this before...? Title: Re: 696 headlight on early Monster Post by: Nekkid Tim on January 26, 2015, 03:21:57 PM I'm not at all a fan of the later headlight, but I think your custom brackets are AWESOME!

This - those brackets are really trick Title: Re: 696 headlight on early Monster Post by: gajus on January 28, 2015, 01:38:50 PM This - those brackets are really trick Thnx for the nice compliments, too bad you won't see the brackets with the headlight and flyscreen in place.... ;D I've pretty much sorted out the wiring except for the low fuel light. Best solution is probably a seperate fuel light. @ Tim: i really like your SS-project! Very inspiring project. I'm planning a similar project. While I'm a big fan of the classic headlight, I have to say the 696 headlight looks great on your bike and looks good with the blacked out forks. The bike overall looks fantastic. Nice job! |
