Title: crankcase breather o-ring?
Post by: Privateer on January 25, 2015, 03:45:38 PM
Finally getting around to replacing my crankcase breather due to mine seemingly spewing oil all over through the removed catch tank.

It seems there's a o-ring as a separate part.  Anyone know if a non-duc specific one will work and the dimensions?

and if anyone has an OEM breather laying around they want to get rid of, please let me know before I buy on ebay.

thanks.

I've been trying to determine the same thing myself. My usual go-to McMaster-Carr didn't have one large enough, neither aluminum or copper... Have you had any luck yet? My usually proficient Google kung-fun isn't doing the trick.

yeah seems to be no info I can find about the o-ring other than the part number.  my google-fu is also coming up short, actually spent about an hour digging around before I posted here.

some aftermarket breathers seem to use more like a crush washer, while the OEM at least on my bike is a rubber o-ring.  other than that, nothing concrete.

The earlier Monsters (up to 01 for a fact, possibly later) are equipped with an aluminum crush ring and three bond as standard.

Can you get a caliper around your breather? MMC didn't have the correct crush washer but I may just order a rubber o-ring that would fit. I'll get a quantity of them and send ya a few.

My 98 M900 came w/ an alum crush washer. I believe my Ducabike breather came w/ one too so I may have an extra large crush washer if you need it. Let me know and I'll check.  I used the crush washer and red permatex on top and bottom of it when installing the new breather. 2-3K miles now & its not leaking. This should be more substantial than one lg. o-ring. You can have my oem breather if yours is cracked. Re-sealing it w/ permatex & the alum ring should do it. silas1064@hotmail.com

FYI, I got rid of the catch tank and just run an approx. 1" hose up & off of top of Ducabike breather. It's open on the end under the seat & doesn't spew
