I'm a machinist by trade and just got the woodcraft 2" rise clipons. I'm considering machining the stock mounts off and polishing the whole clamp. Has anyone done this? Lot cheaper than buying an aftermarket one i suppose.
That has been done and it looks great 8)
There will be holes in the triple where the raised mounts are/were.

Is it still a hole if it is filled in? ;)
Two aesthetically acceptable options come to mind. The first being to take it to a proficient TIG welder and have the holes filled and then you machine them. The welder would probably appreciate a backer plug in the holes before he starts. The other option is to turn a couple interference freeze plugs. Clean up and measure the holes, then turn the plugs .003" o'size. Freeze them with dry ice and acetone and then
decisively install them. Then machine them. Several final finish options are possible. 7075 T6 Al would be great, but even 6061 should work.
I think the holes look fine - maybe even better than not. I did a search, but didn't find pictures - they are here though.
I've seen them with SS button head screws in them, and they looked fine also.
I'm talking about removing the whole bar mounts, leaving holes the size and shape of the mounts ;)
If it is a 620/800 Dark the mounts are part of the top triple, no hole visible . . .
Have a look at my bike, 620 Dark

Sort of like the 999 top clamp?
Closest I could find.

not a bad idea machining slots connecting the holes. [thumbsup] Had the bike 1 week and i already got it torn apart. I'm considering doing the tail chop also but i need to read more on it.
orrrrr get an upper and lower set up from a sport1000

well i got the clip on's on and tree machined, not my "casket" style brake and clutch reservoirs interfere with the woodcraft 2 piece clip ons. I got new cheapo adjustable levers coming from moto777 and im wondering if they with pair with the spacers for the brake/clutch levers or is it a better idea to just go with cup style reservoirs? [bang]
Another option is ebay knockoff sets for like $80 bucks, not sure if i trust those though.
If the levers adjust enough to compensate for the spacers, you're all set [thumbsup]
