Title: Oil filter wrench
Post by: reddog on April 06, 2015, 06:00:45 AM
I need to get an oil filter wrench does anyone have a preferred online shop to get one(in Aus) , and oil fllter and also any recommendations for the latest greatest oil for M696 13 ?
Also the monster has just in the last month started to become hard to start when cold. The battery luckily hasnt let me down yet  but it can sometimes take over a dozen goes to start. The engine light comes on after it has coughed and spluttered for a bit and disappears if i turn off and retry again . Always ends up starting just can take 5 to 15mins extra . Bike has only just gone on 8000km and only has had the one 1500km service. Mr Reddog is going to do the oil drop and doesnt reckon it needs a full service yet. Any opinions??

Hi reddog
If you are using K & N filters which you should be as the Ducati OEM ones seem to leak
They have a nut formed into the body of the filter to instal and remove.
If you are using them get one of these. WURTH  0965 13 917  x 17 mm

From memory $18 ish.
They have a spiral sipe that gets more grip the more you torque it so if the nut on the filter has rounded off it still grips .
This is for removing only as you don't want to be over torquing the filter , I do hand tight so around 25 ft pounds 34 nm
I found filter removing hoops really hard to get positioned on the filter with it being recessed into the base of he motor.

The only way I could get out my original OEM filter was to drain the oil then belt a flat screwdriver through the filter  :o
and twist it out as it was over tightened .
I use Silkolene full Synthetic but only cause my LBS stocks it but from what I have read Motul is the best.
Maybe throw some fresh sparkplugs in easy and cheap and amazing what a difference they make
sounds like your battery may be on its last legs get it load tested and when you get a service get a fresh fuel filter  [thumbsup]

I use one of these. If things get rounded off then you can put two screws through it and attach the wrench to the filter (ruining the filter, of course). I'm pretty sure these are the guys I bought from, but there are plenty of similar ones out there.
