Title: Special tools required and how to remove fuel tank on 07 S4RS
Post by: AZDUC on April 16, 2015, 07:15:30 PM
I have a small fuel leak and want to pull the tank. I lifted it up and saw the fuel injection lines have clips on them. Can I buy a tool at an auto parts store to remove the lines. How do i drain the fuel or are there valves that don't allow draining in the lines (saw this while searching for info). Is there anything else I should know when doing this?

Thanks

Where is the leak?

Removing the large fuel lines won't empty the tank - there are valves, as you mention. I guess it's upside down time or work over a bucket when you remove the flange.

My s4rs had a small leak at one of the connectors on the pump flange when it was new.  It is tricky to get the fuel lines in just right so that when the tank is lowered it does not put a torque or crimp on the lines/connectors.  Look real close at the fuel line routing before disconnecting them - maybe take a pic.  I think my leak was a wonky o-ring in the plastic connector.  No special tools just squeeze the locking ring and it will unlatch and pull off.  Some fuel will come out, have rags ready to catch it.  I ended up replacing the connector to fix my leak but a new o-ring might have worked.  I hope that is where your leak is - if the leak is around the flange that is a much worse problem.

I'm not sure where the leak is? I just know that after the last time I rode it, the garage stunk like fuel. It's never done that before and knowing that a fuel injection system is sealed I know I have a leak somewhere. My plan is to start the bike to pressurize the system and then look for the leak and/or pull the tank for an inspection of the fuel lines and connections. Gonna tear into it tomorrow.

Thanks for the help guys.  [thumbsup]
