How to swap kmph/mph faceplates in speedometer?

So I've got the speedo out of the dash no worries, just can't see how to get into the unit to swap the plate. I can see the plate is fixed by 2 screws. Tried untwisting the black surround in case it's threaded, no dice. Don't want to break/damage it as it's NOS!

Thanks in advance :)

Well, if you're talking about the older circular ones, the front is unfortunately very difficult to get out without causing major damage. If you're dead set on doing it, your best bet would be to either:
a) Cut the white plastic housing with a dremel or similar, then glue it back together later (Someone did this on a tach and wrote about it: http://www.ducatigirl.com/inventory/tach.html (http://www.ducatigirl.com/inventory/tach.html) )
b) Use a heat gun on the black bezel and slowly, carefully pry upwards to separate it from the housing.

When I tried it, I started by prying without heat, and cracked the bezel in a few spots. Then I used a heat gun, and was able to pry the rest of the bezel up that way. It didn't go back to perfectly normal afterwards, but that was mostly because I had already cracked it.  When heating with a heat gun it did tend to want to go back to its original shape, though.

I would say that there is a nonzero chance that you could get it apart and back together without damage, but I wouldn't bet a NOS speedo on it. Personally, I had bought a new speedo/tach/housing mostly for the new tach and housing, so I dissected the speedo mostly out of curiosity.

Bugger!

Yeah the old circular ones 97-01 is the range I'm working with. Time to borrow the wife's hair dryer!
