Title: Need Advice on a Purchase!
Post by: mindiraser on April 30, 2015, 11:28:12 AM
Hello everyone,

I have a 2013 1100EVO and I have come across a local dealer selling this...

http://www.columbuscycleshop.com/new...36&pov=4230822 (http://www.columbuscycleshop.com/new...36&pov=4230822)

It is a 2009 1100S with a little over 2200 miles. I have considered buying it and swapping the Ohlins front and rear suspension with that on my EVO as well as some of the carbon (belt covers, exhaust header piece). Selling the Termi exhaust, and installing stock (dealer has stock exhaust included with bike).

I could get the bike for about $6000 ($6500 with TT&L) OTD. With the wx just starting to get really nice I think I could turn around and sell the bike and come close to breaking even if not more. Allowing me to get a free Ohlins suspension and some other decent parts in the process.

My questions are:

1. Are all the mentioned parts interchangeable with my 1100 EVO? Some, all, none?
2. You think it is a good idea?
3. Are there any angles I'm forgetting?

Thanks so much in advance!!!

Well, the 1100s already has the Ohlins front and back. No ABS, if that matters to you. It also has carbon belt covers.

I believe he's asking if the 1100s parts will fit his EVO.

I don't know.

OK, I get it now! the suspension parts should be no problem, but the carbon belt covers have a hole for the second spark plug that the EVO motor does not have. When selling on the 1100S a prospective buyer might be miffed about the lower grade suspension!

I need to find out what the specs on the 1100s and the 1100 Evo suspension is. I would hate to buy this bike and find out they are not directly interchangeable. There is a small error for profit/value in this option.

Anyone have the suspension/tree opening diameters? for the 1100s?

I would be easier to update the suspension on your evo. You will need to have your suspension set up for best results so having your forks and shock rebuilt might be the best solution. There have been threads on other Ducati websites that have covered this update. I believe Racetech can do a full upgraded rebuild set to your weight and riding style, their website sucks, it is easier to call and speak to a service person. Penske is another brand that has parts.
Kyle racing is a west coast Ohlins distributer, you can order forks and a shock from them with custom valving in your body weight. This is where my Ohlins rebuild parts came from.

Are you going to advertise it as an 1100s when you sell it without the "S" components?

Seems like a win win to me.

Even if you came out minus a few hundred bucks.  The RacTech rebuild will be more than that anyway.

I would sell it as an 1100 (base). I am still trying to justify the cost/time/swap. I understand that the only difference is the rotors?

Also,

It has a Termi exhaust on it. Would that fit an EVO as well. If so, it may be a simple decision.

Looking over the ad again, I'd buy the 1100S, keep it and sell your EVO.

I'm not willing to buy a used bike for my use unless absolutely necessary. I prefer new along with knowing the bike's history. Plus, I prefer the wet clutch as it is very humid and rains a ton here in SE Texas.

Decisions, decisions.
