I am in the middle of installing my 748 forks I got from Eric@clubhouseautosport and the upper triple I got bored out from Monsterlover (thanks guys!) and have 2 questions:
1) Should I be expecting the clamping torques on the upper and lower triple bolts to change due to the shim or fork body? I see stock monster triple clamp (upper and lower) torque target at 20Nm 1-2-1, but 748/996 looks to be 20Nm upper / 14Nm lower. Is fork clamping bolt torque a function of the forks or the triple tree clamps itself? Should I be targeting a little less clamping torque on the lower now that I have SBK forks installed?
2) With the upper, bored, stock triple tree, should I be expecting the clamp spacing (gap where you can see the fork through the clamp) to change a little from stock? My gap when torqued to 15 ftlbs/20Nm on the upper is much smaller than I remember. Any problems with this? I only worry about overclamping the upper triple since it has less material, I don't want to crack the clamp. (yes I did regrease the bolts before clamping, and the triple was machined with the bolts screwed in to clamp)
Same values . . .+/- 5
Ok, I guess I'll go with that.
I'm still worried the upper triple clamp is too tight, but I guess I'll just run stock specs of 20nm and keep an eye on cracking.
