I just recently bought a Monster 696 (2010 model without ABS) and the guy told me that it needed an Oil change. I have scheduled it for an Oil change but I was riding it the other day and after about 25-30 mins of riding I was stopped on a red light in neutral and when I shifted to 1st gear the bike didn't move even when I had let go of the whole clutch. I pulled it over and turned it off, after a few mins I started the bike again and shifted it to 1st gear, and when I was letting go of the clutch I rev'ed it up a lot and it started to move, on every gear shift i had to rev it up for it to pick up the gear. I drove back home and tried it yesterday and the same thing happened all over again, it rides perfectly fine up to 30 mins of riding without any shifting issues.
Also, when I turn on the ignition without starting the bike, the oil light stays on.
Could the reason be that it is low on oil?
It is my first Ducati and I don't know what the issue could be?

The red oil pressure light is on before start, just to let us know it's working, but should turn off when started.
Check the oil level in the sight glass with the bike balanced perfectly upright.
Maybe if the oil was really old it could affect the clutch action like you describe, but that would indicate LOUSY maintenance. More likely worn plates and/or something loose in the clutch assembly. This is not something you should ignore or hope to fix itself.

Try shutting the bike off while the bike is in first, clutch lever released. Can you move the bike? If so, the bike is not engaging first gear.
Ignition on, bike not running, no oil pressure, therefore light should be on, normal.
You have a wet clutch. Might have car oil unsuitable for the clutch. How many miles?
BTW, my wet clutch can do something similar if I'm just holding the clutch in for a VERY long time at a stop light. It won't do it if I select neutral for that very long 4-way light. Change to M/C oil and report back.
It wouldn't hurt to read the owners manual as well. If you did not get one with the bike it is available on the Ducati web site as a free download.
