Title: anyone ever replace an entire ignition lock? Post by: showerfan on June 09, 2015, 11:10:34 AM and keys? a while back i thought it'd be cute to replace the unreliable ignition lock and keys for my 1999 M900 City with an m-lock wireless device. it was cool for about a week, now i think it sucks.
so i have to decide now if i should replace the entire system with a traditional set-up -- DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH THAT WOULD COST? -- or just hook up a race system that requires no key at all, just a switch. i'd prefer the latter and i'll bet it's cheap too, but i feel like someone might just... take the bike. on the other hand, i now realize thieves take whatever bike they want, no matter the ignition situation... Out of curiousity, what don't you like about the m-lock? Title: Re: anyone ever replace an entire ignition lock? Post by: Dochunt on June 09, 2015, 11:35:04 AM BTW
Matt, I read your article on the BMW H4, funny as hell. Title: Re: anyone ever replace an entire ignition lock? Post by: showerfan on June 09, 2015, 01:03:55 PM Thank you, sir! I may write another one soon about the 1299 panigale I bought and how I never learn my lesson. Trading it now for a Diavel... ;)
I don't like the non-mechanical aspect of the m-lock. What I love about this bike is how analogue it is. Not even a slipper clutch. So this m-lock misses the mark. I was also hoping it would work more like the keyless fobs for Multistrada or Diavel. I'm just going to use the keyless race-start ignition bypass thingie if I can't find a reasonable ignition lock new. Title: Re: anyone ever replace an entire ignition lock? Post by: Dochunt on June 09, 2015, 03:02:12 PM Nothing will prevent a thief from putting a light bike on the back of a truck and taking off, but if you want to prevent some moron from riding off, you can just loosen the wire to the spark plug when you park the bike.
this is what we did years ago in college in NYC. Title: Re: anyone ever replace an entire ignition lock? Post by: Nibor on June 09, 2015, 03:38:11 PM I have a lock set/ignition for sale, in AUD too so cheap for you Americans :) from a 2000 model so should still fit your 99 fine!
Title: Re: anyone ever replace an entire ignition lock? Post by: silas on June 15, 2015, 06:22:57 AM I have an ignition lock you can buy from me if it works. Its from a 96 900ss-sp and comes attached to the SP top triple and steering stem. I can't figure out how to separate it from the top triple though, no faces on the cone nuts holding it to triple underneath. PM me your email if interested and I'll send pics once I get home. $75 for all or cheaper for lock & key only if I figured out how to separate them. |
