Title: Re: My S2R 800 Post by: 2WheelsFTW on June 24, 2015, 06:37:09 AM Update:
When I installed all the black aluminum nuts (front axle, rear left axle and rear wheel nut) I threw a little line of torque paint on to monitor if the new hardware maintained torque....well it didn't. All maintained torque except the left rear axle nut. Thank god for those spring clips. In any case, I simply re-tightened with a little more torque (15 N.m.) and test rode. Yet again it loosened. [bang] By now i'm frustrated so...Threadlocker+More torque... I removed the nut, cleaned the threads and applied Blue Loctite 242, torqued up 20 N.m. Test rode last night and to work this morning. It appears to have done the trick, but i'm defiantly going to be keeping an eye on all 3 nuts. I think i'm going to put a little Loctite on the wheel nut and front axle nut for peace of mind. Title: Re: My S2R 800 Post by: stopintime on June 24, 2015, 08:34:11 AM I have had the same experience with my previous attempt on an aluminum left side nut. Don't know if the material has anything to do with it, but it came loose - in the attempt to escape, the spring clip managed to snap 3 or 4 'teeth' off the nut. Replaced it with a stock steel nut and it has been fine after that.
My theory is that a slightly worn hub cover/flange moved a little on it's splines - loosening the nut as a result. ..or that aluminum just isn't firm enough(?) Title: Re: My S2R 800 Post by: 2WheelsFTW on June 24, 2015, 10:19:17 AM Its got to be the aluminum, the more I think about it i'm probably going to put that steel factory one back on.
