Title: another option for chrome parts...easy and reversible Post by: djomlas on June 15, 2015, 04:27:25 PM so i had my headlight trim plastidipped black, and great thing about that is that you can peel it off, so i did.

I am not in that camp, having tried it several times on different bikes with less than satisfactory results. Since it is easily peeled off it is also more susceptible to incidental damage. I also found that some cleaning products/waxes/treatments will soften it to the point of degradation. Even with discounting the less than expected durability, I did not care for it because it has a distinctly different finish to it and is easily differentiated from just about any other coating system (paint, powder coat, anodized, etc.). But, if it blows someones skirt up, I say go for it. i can lay down dip smoother as butter, and you would never ever tell its dip as opposed to matte black motorcycle finish on most bikes. then in saying that i do dip a lot, i probably have under my belt at least 400 sets of wheels, numerous car parts, full motorcycle dips etc etc, so i think its you and not the dip hehe the key is to lay down few light coats, and then one HEAVY last coat. it evens everything out and its smooth, not bumpy like you probably saw that gave you impression that dip sucks or is textured. and just as a quick example, here is a pic of my zx14 the lower black panels are dip as well as that little triangle behind the rear wheel and front fender black sides are OEM, if anything dip looks better. and also, right to the left of the fins on the frame is a battery box, you can see how its sort of part of the frame between frame and fin, thats also dip, as as you can see it looks identical in color and texture as the rest of the black next to it. i suggest a bit more practice, you'd be amazed. and the 2nd pic is the black dip on s2r headlight trim, as you can see its nice and perfect gloss to match the bucket. hope that helps a bit (http://i58.tinypic.com/oivtbs.jpg) (http://i59.tinypic.com/s40vbs.jpg) |
